Michelle Marciniak's Take

Vols lost to an unranked nobody team with Dumbledore as a mascot. Where are the villagers with their torches?

The difference between the two situations is obvious to anyone paying attention. Kinda pathetic to try to hide CHW's inadequacies by the comparison.

All due respect to Ms. Marciniak, its all on the coach. Besides the blatantly obvious schematic and game management problems (is bewilderment a strategy?), she recruits the players and is directly responsible for their attitudes and work ethic, or lack thereof. (And I'm not saying that to criticize the players - no idea if half the things said are true or not and don't care - its still on the coach.)

Being happy about her 75% winning percentage is like being happy with CBJ's 9-4 season. It looked good, but padded by wins over lesser program and still lost to everyone that really matters. Lady Vols don't consistently win against the best programs anymore, and we are no longer feared. Said once before, I miss the days when everyone except UConn knew deep down they were in for a butt kicking playing Tennessee, and even UConn knew they were in for a good fight with a worthy peer program. Long, long gone.

We'll be here next year having the same discussion.

Seems within 4 hours of the loss, the ya-ya sisterhood of ex Lady Vols got together and voted on a spokesperson to shield Holly. Either lots fell to Michelle Marciniak or she volunteered. It may take a few years, but reality won't set in until practicality relegates the Lady Vols to return to playing their home games in the alumni gym.

It's amazing how she and Alexis Hornbuckle were both coached by Pat and Holly and have virtually completely different takes on the situation.

Spinderella is FOS on this subject.

That's not true. But it doesn't matter. You're just looking to advance your own narrative.

I certainly hope the admin is not made up of people who think like you because they would be enabling the program into mediocrity. Losers always find "legit" reasons why they lost and you certainly have provided a plethora of them. We had no business losing to Oregon State at home yesterday, but the sad part is that most of us knew it was coming.

They're called facts. I agree we shouldn't have lost at home to Oregon State.

I'm sure everyone that isn't from Oregon, UConn, or Mechelle Voepel, thought we should win.

ORST is no scrub. In fact, they were ranked higher than us in coaches' poll. While it's extremely disappointing, it's not some career-defining upset of the century. It's not even Ball State bad.

And, frankly, for so many of you that enjoy the negative narrative on a constant basis, who's surprised that you'd pick us to lose.

I don't think Marciniak left Notre Dame to come to Tennessee to dabble in Southern dialect and to freelance on the basketball floor.

She came for effective coaching and the opportunity to compete for National Championships.

I think we all hoped that Warlick would be successful; to not be Pat Summitt but to continue to cultivate the blue collar work ethic among these blue star athletes. On the contrary, she is almost the antithesis. She is casual, complacent, unprepared, on the defensive, confused, non-demanding, etc.

Sure, the players have accountability in this. They have to go out and make the plays. They should have a level of competitiveness despite coaching/teaching, good or bad. But the buck stops at the top. She should know that and accept that. The coach's heart pumps the blood throughout the team.

None of us are in the gym everyday, of course. But resounding evidence suggests that there is underachievement, and it appears perpetual.

It really bothered me on Sunday knowing that we had a renowned shooter (Dunbar) that potentially could have helped us, but she has never been incorporated as a weapon. She seemingly has been castigated as a defensive liability. I find that ironic seeing that no one plays defense correctly out there. It's "hit-or-miss" as to what you are going to get on defense: blow-bys, no help, open space breakdowns on defense, baseline give aways, etc. Under Summitt defense and rebounding were givens. Summitt utitlized shooters/weapons like Brittany Jackson, Misty Greene, Sidney Spencer, et. al. even if she didn't approve of their defense.

Dominique Redding. Great 3 point shooter. Bad defender. Almost never got to play and was constantly berated by Pat.

Dunbar is a terrific teammate, and a capable shooter. (Though she isn't better than several others on our team. ) But with her poor defense, she probably gives up 2 baskets for every one she makes - especially against fast, athletic players. And her foot injury has hindered her for two years.

When you make your point about Dunbar, it tells me that you really don't follow the team much at all.

Have a good day! And GLV!

One has nothing to do with another. I'm actually not convinced that Barnes will ever be so great in March as he hasn't been anywhere else, but his situation is apples to oranges with regards to Warlick. Her program has a higher ceiling than does Barnes' and less competition, as well.

It's great to have pride in Tennessee. It's quite another to have some Pollyanna attitude towards reality.

I'm certainly no more Pollyanna than you are doom & f@ckin' gloom. However, of the two, I'd take Pollyanna. Fans are supposed to be positive - ridiculously so, in fact. Just because the sky is falling negative rhetoric plays well as "realistic" on social media, doesn't mean it makes one appear wiser. It's really just kind of sad...Especially for the one being bashed.

I'm not trying to hide anything. I was merely stating fact. I understand that the real issue here is expectation, but I'm trying to point out how that's not fair when the end result of the comparison is firing someone.

I also like that you're trying to bolster your anti-Holly argument by comparing her to Butch Jones, an old message board target.

We do win against the best programs. No, we don't beat them all or every time. But we do beat them. I'd have been more convinced if you said we couldn't beat Alabama. That's closer to truth.

Seems within a few hours after the post, the doom & gloom arsehole guild got together and voted you spokesperson to stab Holly with your rapier wit.

It may take a few years, but reality won't set in until practicality relegates you to the knowledge that Alumni Gym was torn down 15 years ago and is now a fine arts performance hall.

Ha! Redding was Sidney Spencer's classmate and she overlapped the careers of Shanna Zolman and Brittany Jackson. The team didn't need Dom's shooting. Bad analogy! This current team needed a shooter. I feel Dunbar's foot had healed enough that she could have provided more meaningful minutes.

But that's quibbling and avoiding the obvious. Our teams are underachieving whether you care to admit it or not. I personally haven't attacked Warlick's employment. I have derided her approach. Her employment is up to the university. (And you are giving Dunbar "that crap" which annoys her "coach.")

I have followed the team less and less this year. It has been disappointing. I began following Lady Vol basketball fairly religiously since 1979. That was Warlick's, Jill Rankin's, and Kathy O'Neil's senior season.

And your defiance and disdain for the truth would earn you another fistful of jersey! :salute: (Couldn't resist!)

Ridiculously positive means you are willfully ignoring things in order to maintain some facade. I'm too old to lie to myself like this. Sad is actually pretending everything is alright merely to fit this idea of a "good" fan, if not being an outright fool were you to convince yourself of this being reality.

You want us to say "Hey, it's raining" while getting pissed on and define that as the mark of a true fan. There's nothing worse, though, than the people in the Cult of the "True Fan".

My eyes are wide open & don't knock getting pissed on unless you've tried it.

I appreciate your commitment to your version of the truth...and for focusing on the approach not the employment.

Dom actually finished with a somewhat redemptive final year. A better example that you might have selected would be Marlene Jeter, a 6-foot deadeye lefty out of South Carolina who unfortunately couldn't keep her weight down and completed her eligibility as a student only.

The sad thing is....you just got "owned" by his post and you do not even know it.....carry on it has become entertaining to say the least.....

Poster did better than you, that's for sure. Calling someone a bunch of names is not "owning" them. The takes are completely baseless.

My reply was appropriate. You guys just keep being negative and enjoy yourselves, but don't believe you're a fan.

There's nothing baseless about most of the critiques of your position. You keep prattling on about this "negativity" as if it has some sort of meaning. The critiques are exactly that, critiques. Not rah-rah good fan nonsense, but a desire by fans to put forth the best possible scenario for the program's success. Your loyalty to Holly seems to supersede your loyalty to the program. I don't partake in personal jabs at Warlick, nor piss and moan about not winning championships every year. I do assess her in her capacity to take this program to the limits of its capabilities and, there, I find her quite lacking.

She's just not good enough and the sooner you understand this the better you'll be able to divorce yourself from your overwhelming desire to protect Holly over the needs of the Lady Vols.

Some Tennessee fans are still spewing venom at Coach Fulmer from when he was coach.

Some Tennesse fans still have several threads going that continue to hurl ugly invectives at Butch Jones.

Some Tennesse fans want coach Ralph Weekly fired.

Other Tennessee fans want Chancellor Davenport fired.

Six games into the 2018 football season Tennessee fans will be saying he was the wrong hire.

Tennessee fans have about 20 FIRE HOLLY threads going.

Tennesse fans are the absolute worst in all of college athletics.

Yawwwwnnnnn. Ok. You've got me pegged.

I guess Pat, the fellow coaches, current players, former players, future players, and other fans are all just idiots when they stand behind Holly . You are the enlightened one, the true judge of coaching acumen and what's best for the program.

When your own partner - assuming anyone can tolerate you - does his/her absolute best cooking a meal for you and the family, do you critique him/her for not preparing the best meal you've ever had?

Truth be told, you likely don't know $hit from shinola on this matter. What are your qualifications for judging her "capacity to lead this program to limits of its capabilities." Neither of us are in a position of responsibility. Therefore, your "critiques" are just meaningless horse dung.

I chose to support my coach and you don't. Good for you.

I don't think your analogy (partner cooking) holds up. Unless you're in the relationship for their cooking, in which case it's still your fault since you should know what their culinary skills are.
Better would be; Would you continue to hire an underperforming chef to run your restaurant ?
As far as the qualifications of posters making observations go, that doesn't enter the equation at all. This is a message board for the University of Tennessee's women's athletic teams. No qualifications are needed to post an individual's opinion or observation.
Would you have it otherwise ?
I understand that you have chosen to support the coach in this situation, very good. That's one way a fan can respond, but not the only way.
I've asked this question for the last 3 years (not to you, in general) and I still haven't received a response.
What would have to happen to the women's basketball program (record wise) before you stopped supporting the coach ?
Are you really the same poster who went by the name of "Ivy League" ?

Exactly, you choose to support the coach and not the program. Glad we got that cleared up.

The rest is just whiny nonsense and a whole host of logical fallacies, including a pathetic attempt to drag my personal life into the matter. The ones about demanding my qualifications and saying I shouldn't have an opinion, unless it is fawning support, of course, are the dumbest, though.

Flashback to last season. This article could had been written this season. Rocky at Rocky Top for Warlick, Lady Vols - Sports - The Florida Times-Union - Jacksonville, FL

Holly is strictly in it for the money. She riding on coach Summitt's legacy while literally stomping all over it.

That last record breaker on The Summitt was the straw that broke the camel's back! That was the one record that coach Patricia Head Summitt HAD that no other team in the Nation could break-NOT EVEN UCONN. It only took Holly 7 seasons to destroy coach Summitt's many accomplishments. BUT THE BIGGEST TRAVESTY OF THEM ALL LOSING AT HOME IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT.

IN ORDER FOR THE LADYVOLS TO SUCCEED HOLLY WARLICK NEEDS TO BE FIRED. TODAY:yes:
