Mike Farrell on Negative Recruiting, Commitment Flips

Yeah, I remember Urban rustled some jimmies his first year in the B1G when he was flipping recruits like crazy. I think Bielema tried to say some nonsense about a "gentleman's agreement" about not recruiting other conference team's commits.

I hate Urban as much as the next guy but that's a load of hogwash. I think Bielema probably understands that's life in the cutthroat SEC.

Yeah, those "rustled jimmies" are now in Arkansas and has been converted to doing the same "dirty" recruiting.

Let's be honest, every school pays star players in some capacity, but I think Auburn is the king of it. Did you see the recruit who flipped from Texas to Auburn and posted the snapchat pic of all the cash? You know Malzahn was like, "Dang, son."

You mean the kid who was committed to Texas for like less than a week and is also Michael Irving's nephew? Yeah actually that wasn't surprising. :)

But yeah Auburn man. They stung us w/ Lambert last yr. However may be a blessing in disguise there as that JUCO class has been suspect to say the least.

What's with this "stealing" concept.......isn't it more like just winning them over? In other words, isn't that just what recruiting is?? Some people are utterly clueless.

You know this. Some idiots actually believe it's "dirty" to continue to recruit kids who have given a verbal.

I think it's funny

I agree with the 2nd paragraph. There's no way I could be a college coach, and suck up to recruits.

Mike Farrell from Rivals was on the Scott Van Pelt show this afternoon. When asked about who is getting a reputation for stealing other schools' commits, he said Butch Jones and Tennessee, mentioning Drew Richmond. I don't see how he came to that conclusion, though, as Drew reached out to Butch Jones, and he said that his recruitment would go down to the wire regardless of commitment. I can't really think of an example where Butch flipped a commit through negative recruiting (not that I'm at the visits or anything). It appears on the surface that he waits for them to de-commit first (i.e. Kirkland, Sheriron Jones, etc.).

I did agree with Mike on how ridiculous it is that recruits go back so easily on their word. These coaches have to basically suck up to these kids, and people worship the ground they walk on. I enjoy national signing day and keep up with recruiting throughout the year, but it's blown way out of proportion. Of course, these recruiting services love it when kids commit and de-commit multiple times, because it helps them to sell memberships.

I normally don't care about what these people say, at least enough to post, but I thought I would share. We have a great class coming in with kids who appear to have good character. I don't see how we can't rise back towards the top of the SEC, barring disaster or terrible OC hire. Go Vols!

I would love for CBJ to have a rep for stealing 5* recruits. Can't see how that hurts anyone but old rebs.

It's 1000% better to be the coach stealing than to be the coach that is being poached...If you can't hold on to players, then you most likely will not have you job for much longer.

Hugh Freeze will be sorry very soon that he didn't take the Florida job when he had the chance.

Take all the 5* recruits CBJ. I don't care what Fla, Ala or Ole Miss thinks. I just want to win baby, and we are on our way.

Eh, I couldn't give a damn what Farrell thinks anyways. I would have to hear the interview though to know if it was meant as a complement or an insult. As far as negative recruiting, I DO NOT CARE, I just want him to bring in the best class he can within the rules of the law and possibly the NCAA. If college football was a test of who could be the nicest guy maybe Freeze wouldn't have been a douche and ran up the score, so don't give me that crap.

Do right by your school, players, and fans and do it within the confines of the law and I could give a crap whose toes you step on or stomp on as far as other fans or coaches.

You know things are looking up when you are the bad guy. Tennessee is becoming the bad guy again:naughty:, and I love it.

Who ever said it first, it is free game until the ink is on the paper. Who cares who committed where first? UT has had its fair share of recuits going to other schools, it is what it is, the last thing a 17 year has before life takes over.

Go Vols!!!

One of my good friends and long time football coach once said, "Everyone has nothing but nice things to say about when they beat you every year and can kick you around. As soon as you start to fight back and start winning, though, then people all of a sudden don't admire you like they once did."

I like Butch Jones cause he's got thick skin and appears to have a winning system that he sticks to, with making some minor adjustments of course. If he's Johnny Majors approved, you know he's probably a tough football coach.

Folks in the SEC are going to hate the hell out of Tennessee when they're a power again.

I hope Butch gets a reputation for stealing other team's recruits. That's his damn job and it's fair game until the name is on the dotted line.

What a non-issue.

Help me out please. Other than Drew who did we steal? It seems we get recruits committed early in the process and then hang on till the end. Can you or anyone else list others we have flipped this year? tks
