Mike Farrell: The early read on Trey Smith .....

Isn't Urban Meyer 6'3? Trey Smith is clearly a couple inches taller.

I don't know. All I do know, is that if these two guys want him enough to personally visit him the day before his announcement, I don't give a flip what Farrell thinks

In the one on one videos he is facing smaller, fast guys. Exactly what tackles usually face. Smith's footwork, speed and agility was obvious!
He looked great!!!

I could definitely be wrong, but I know he's above 6 feet.

I looked it up. Urban is 6'1" according to one site and 6'3" according to another. So, based off of that, Trey is either 6'4" or 6'6"...lol

Absolutely no help

To be fair, this is a misrepresentation of his concern about arm length. Arm length concerns with OTs are about whether they'll be able to engage well enough against DEs with big wingspans, not about dealing with small pass rushers.

Negative. You want long arms to make it harder for quick pass rushers to turn the corner on you

Shouldn't it be more important how long a OL is from ground to shoulders? Like what if a OL has a really short neck and small head. Would that make him less of a player than a guy who was 2 inches player than him but had the same ground to shoulder height?

So this guy is sent to cover the highlights of some of the best recruits in the nation, instead uses his time to tear apart a high-school kid to justify his difference of opinion with colleagues.

You can't make this $hit up.

With short arms it is incredibly hard to engage smaller, quicker DEs. His point stands.

Sorry, but you're just wrong here. I get wanting to defend our guy against a perceived slight, but this is off.

Do you really think NFL teams are so so obsessed with LT prospects arm lengths because they're worried about small d ends?

Of course not! They're concerned about it because if you have short arms, you're at a huge disadvantage against the huge NFL DEs with freakish wingspans. If you have short arms, you're not going to be engage with guys like Julius Peppers, Clooney, Watt, etc.

Footwork and hip bend is much more important when dealing with smaller, quicker pass rushers than arm length. Remember all the trouble Erik Striker gave Cam Robinson in their bowl game a few years ago? Remember how Vereen gave Robinson some trouble too? Had nothing to do with his arm length, that's for sure.

Yes, having long arms helps against fast edge rushers. But having long arms has nothing to do with being able to take on smaller DEs. Footwork and hip bend are more important there.

A short armed LT with great feet and hips can take on small quick rushers much better than a long DE with a big wingspan who can convert speed to power. The latter is the main concern with short armed guys, not how they do against small, quick DEs.

Am I the only one reading comprehending the words written in this article? Farrell compared Smith's upside to Andre Smith and said his floor is a great OG and top 25-100 prospect.

And people are acting like he's s****ing all over Smith as a prospect.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills

He has him ranked 97th in the country compared with other services that have him top 5, even number 1. He is trying to defend that low ranking.

I think you're not comprehending the big picture.
He called him the most controversial recruit of the season only because people had the nerve to disagree with him. And wrote an entire piece solely for "I'm right and you're wrong".

I don't know if Smith will be great or a bust but that's not point. These people go to write up on highlights and future stars, not single out one kid and focus on a possible shortcoming. All for the sake of his ego.
I'm not sure how you're missing this?

I know that. But he wasn't bashing Smith by any means.

People are acting like he was calling him trash and that's just not the case.
