Mike Farrell: The early read on Trey Smith .....

I know that. But he wasn't bashing Smith by any means.

People are acting like he was calling him trash and that's just not the case.

He's not calling him trash, but he is basically saying that he is overrated on the other sites and that he has him right as a 4 star. The entire point of that post was to say that he's right about Trey and others are wrong.

I think you're not comprehending the big picture.
He called him the most controversial recruit of the season only because people had the nerve to disagree with him. And wrote an entire piece solely for "I'm right and you're wrong".

I don't know if Smith will be great or a bust but that's not point. These people go to write up on highlights and future stars, not single out one kid and focus on a possible shortcoming. All for the sake of his ego.
I'm not sure how you're missing this?

Well given the reaction here, he's obviously not wrong about Smith being controversial.

All of the ranking services have differences of opinion over a handful of kids every class. He's just giving his opinion and the reasoning for his ranking here.

It doesn't seem like an ego thing at all. Just an opinion thing. People here are taking personal offense to his opinion and evaluation and projecting it as Farrell's ego.

You're inferring a lot that isn't there into it because of your personal bias. Dude was just explaining his reasoning for not rating Smith as high as other services.

If he didn't explain his reasoning, the same people freaking out in here would be whining and complaining about him not addressing Smith's rating this week during the AA game.

I'm not sure how long his arms are, but I think I have found a way to fix it:

I don't give three or four sh!ts about what he thinks he knows. The amount of cherry picking these guys do to justify a ranking, that is clearly wrong, is obnoxious.

"Despite what other sites say, his left elbow is too pointy and his right eye twitches when he speaks, therefore we cannot justify a bump in his ranking." Shut up.

As long as it is quick twitch we are good!

He should have written how long his arms are and how long a tackles arm should be. Would have been good information to have lol.

He dominated his reps with short arms and is not the LT height. But, let me clean that up by saying he won his reps, even though he played against lesser competition in HS. And lastly, I'll see how he fairs throughout the week against bigger guys.

To me, as soon as he gets beat or looses a rep, Farrell is gonna say yep I told you so.

There no way Farrell will bump him to a 5...it's very clear he's looking for any reason not to...if Trey performs the rest of the week like he did on day one then I could see him in the top 50 and a 6.0 from Rivals but Farrell will use anything he sees as a slight to justify not bumping him to a 5

I remember when a UT kid from California was dominating these all star events.

Not so much in real life.

I'll believe it when I see it against SEC competition.

Yup. If he loses a single rep there will be a 500 word article written about it.

3. The early read on Trey Smith

The bottom line, at least for someone like myself who has been doing this for a long, long time and has seen a ton of offensive lineman, is that I didn’t see Andre Smith today but there were many things that impressed me.

D4H would be proud.

When your site refuses to rank players high who skip your camps, then you must write a piece defending your position and why you have him ranked lower....

I've said this before on here, most of these guys that write for these recruiting sites don't know what they're talking about.
They couldn't pick out talent and who's good or technique without someone guiding their hand. I've seen it first hand at football camps.
"This kids special, watch out for him he's gonna blow up"

"Yeah yeah he's really good"

HA!

Take names and numbers off the kids and they have no clue who can play football.

Rivals will not bump Smith to a 5 star out of spite because of ESPNs ranking.
