Mike Gundy facing backlash

*with what t-shirts his players want him to wear

What do you think his players would have said if he wore a Che t-shirt?

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the shirt just happens to be the straw that broke the camels back. Fixating on the shirt will have you looking like everyone that defended butch until way too late. You don’t have players calling out your wardrobe if you have the respect of the locker room.

It’s not under fire because it’s pro trump (although it is). It’s under fire because it literally is fake news. Not like some other far right or far left websites that are crazy biased but still vaguely based on reality. OAN is just straight conspiracy theory nonsense. It’s like Alex Jones with a smaller budget.
Gotcha. I’ve never really heard of it, let alone watched it.

Gundy makes the statement about OAN.
Players bring it up with assistants.
Players assume assistants tell Gundy about their concerns.
Gundy shows up in a photo wearing OAN shirt.
Players get pissed because either thr assistants never discussed it with Gundy or they did and Gundy wore the shirt anyway.

It doesn't seem that complicated to me, but you're free to think whatever you want.

Sounds like you’re trying to convince yourself of that because it’s quite unbelievable that this guy has been a racist for 20 years and it’s only because he wore the T-shirt of some obscure tv network on a fishing trip w his sons that it’s just gone too far.

Did I miss someone accusing Gundy of being a racist?

For the last 3 years the biggest conspiracy theory running was being covered 24/7 on CNN. Russia collusion! Do you think he’d be under fire right now if he had worn a CNN shirt?

Gundy has had a disdain for the media since, well, forever. He found OAN by channel surfing and thought they just reported the happenings without the usual left/right slant that most do (Gundy’s words). I doubt Gundy gives a rats ass about all the worked up people.

He doesn't sport the mullet ironically. He's a good ol' boy, and he's proud of it. He's a huge Trump guy. Mind you, none of that should be problematic on its face, in my opinion.

But, he's spouted off conspiracy theory nonsense. He stated that he gets all of his news from OAN. My understanding is that several black players brought this up with some black staff members because OAN has been very anti-BLM. That doesn't mean that Gundy is some huge racist, but it does call into question his feelings regarding the current climate and his personal support for his players, many of whom joined in the protests. To then show up on the net wearing that shirt can easily be taken as a pot shot against the players who complained.
Wearing that shirt is up there with some of the most self-unaware things he could have done. It's akin to a pastor at a church being photographed in a Hustler t-shirt or something. The congregation isn't going to like it.

Indeed. We're certainly not seeing examples of 20 year olds acting like buffoons lately.

Gotta say I'm glad his supposed interest in coming here didn't work out.

I always have a nice laugh every time a Trump supporter gets mad about CNN when MSNBC is significantly more left leaning but just isn't attacked on Twitter by him enough I guess. Seems like they'd turn on CSPAN at some point if he tweeted about it.
CNN is just as if not more biased against Trump than MSNBC. It is a bash Trump night , every night in prime time. Every host and guest from 8pm and on. CNN is a joke.

OSU players upset over Gundy wearing a shirt - "cancel" him type comments because it's insensitive.

Same players get in their cars or go to their rooms and turn on rap music that glorifies drug use, violence, gangs, degrades women, and uses the N-word every fifth word.

Makes perfect sense

What a bunch of snowflakes getting triggered by a tshirt. It doesn’t mean anything:

That’s racist. He can’t wear that. Fire him:
06A757FF-F973-4A7D-8F75-D4F2CDDA805F.jpegI’m not saying he should’ve worn it. It was completely tone deaf given the climate, but let’s not forget about the people saying it was just a t shirt when Kap wore something stupid (multiple times) are now are crucifying Gundy.

He was on a fishing trip w his sons in a picture someone else took and posted. And that’s like a pastor wearing a hustler shirt in church? It’s still early but so far this is the dumbest thing I’ve read today

No, it's like a pastor being photographed wearing a Hustler shirt while out fishing with his kids, and that picture getting back around to the congregation. A pastor wearing a Hustler shirt doesn't mean he's a porn addict, or a bad person, but you don't see how his congregation thinks that's a bad look and wouldn't like it?

It's not that Gundy is a bad guy if he likes OAN (although some people will certainly make that conclusion), but it is really self-unaware given he's a college football coach around a bunch of black kids. It takes a special kind of self-unawareness to do that...my guess is that most CFB coaches at least lean conservative, if not very conservative, but they do a better job of empathizing with (not 100% agreeing with, but empathizing with) their players on issues like this.

After your clarification, I believe it makes sense when you consider that leftism is a cult. And you can’t have a leader who is a heretic to your religion.

Oh, well I don't really disagree with that at all. Both fringes of the political spectrum, not just the left, are cult-like. With people on the fringes, you aren't really allowed to have a nuanced opinion about anything. You either totally agree with them, and if you don't then you're a terrible person.

Many on the right would have the same reaction if a coach was pictured wearing a Che t-shirt or something. Few, if any, players would care and I doubt the media would cover it closely, but I bet some fans would be upset, and it'd be a really self-unaware thing for a CFB coach to do.
