Mike Keith and?

I started listening in the late 80s and don’t recall Ward working with a side kick from that time forward. I thought he was great by himself. Did Cawood Ledford also work alone for Kentucky? Seems like he did.

Not sure. I know it was several years. There was someone else who worked with Ward too, but I can't remember whom. @Thunder Good-Oil probably remembers

AW was a player and assistant coach for Mears and was on the radio with Ward only a year or two. But I think he was more like an analyst that stayed quiet unless Ward needed another interpretation of what had happened.

I could have sworn that there was somebody else but I’m drawing a blank. Maybe just a coach and not a player.

Back then they couldn’t seamlessly switch back and forth to the studio like they do now with Wilkerson. Ward’s “color” guy roles went to much more low key participants.

Slay and Bradshaw would take enormous pay-cuts to take the color job for basketball. They have TV dreams and opportunities to make a career, and are both doing really well in that outlet. While both would do excellent in that role with Mike Keith, it just isn't realistic.

So wait, we hate Bradshaw for not showing a biased side, but hate Bilas, Vitale, Herbstreit, etc because they are biased?
I'm not speaking for ( or with) anybody but myself, so no "we" here
(I never said I "hate" him, either btw).
When I watch him it irks me when he actually ends up coming across as biased IMO by overly trying to be not bias. It's definitely a reason I personally wouldn't want him to replace Kesling. I want someone doing the Radio Broadcast to be more enthusiastic when talking about the positive plays Tennessee has/does.
I also don't care for his announcing voice.

Like I said, it's a personal preference. Someone else may like him. That's fine, too.
There is no right or wrong answer when we are talking about personal preferences in a matter like this.

Well, I didn't expect the BaseVols to win the Natty last year, so anything is possible, right?????

Your personal preference is your personal preference, agreed. However, there are some who are more polished than others in their profession. Bradshaw is one of those on a regional level. Former Lady Vol Aliyah Carter is another. Slay is less experienced and less polished, in my opinion, but certainly popular with many fans.

Doesn't matter as long as we have Mike Keith, he should have gotten the job after John Ward.
1,000%. The old adage that “it’s not what you know, but who you know” was certainly applicable in this instance. The proof in what you say is when John Ward told Kesling, after reviewing a tape of Kesling that he (Kesling) had requested Ward to review said, “try another profession.”

If Cawood had an assistant, he was quiet as a mouse. He was a terrific announcer. As a child, I could not get Tennessee's night games on the radio, but I could get Kentucky's and LSU's night games. Back in those days, before Lynsey Nelson and Neyland fromed the VOL Network, it was difficult to get much news about Tennessee sports on the radio.
