This is just funny whether you like the man or not. He's a trip.

Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, who saw his quarterback go undrafted and his star wide receiver slip down in the first round of the NFL draft, had plenty to say about both situations after the proceedings ended.

Leach's record-setting quarterback, Graham Harrell, wasn't among the 256 players picked in the seven rounds of the NFL draft. Meanwhile, Texas A&M's Stephen McGee, who didn't start much of his senior season, went in the fourth round (the 101st pick) to the Dallas Cowboys.

"I'm happy for Stephen McGee," Leach told The Dallas Morning News. "The Dallas Cowboys like him more than his coaches at A&M did."

McGee had a strong showing in front of NFL scouts at the combine. Harrell struggled at the Senior Bowl.

Leach, however, said the NFL has a long track record of picking its quarterbacks poorly. "The truth of the matter is that the NFL drafts quarterbacks notoriously bad," said Leach, according to the Morning News. "That's indisputable. ..."

Harrell won't necessarily be out of work for long. His agent, Chad Speck, said he will participate in the Browns' rookie minicamp.

Meanwhile, Leach said that Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini is to blame for former Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree falling to the 10th pick in the first round. Reports out of Cleveland said that the Browns didn't like Crabtree's attitude when he visited the team prior to the draft.

"Michael Crabtree has been more successful as a receiver than that guy as a coach at this point," Leach said of Mangini, according to media reports of a conference call. "Part of the reason is [Crabtree's] too shy to be like that."

Leach said Crabtree isn't a "diva."

"My definition of a diva is someone who's loud and self-absorbed," Leach told reporters. "Michael Crabtree is the furthest thing from loud that I've seen. ... Let's see how all those non-divas do up in Cleveland this year."

Funny that Leach didn't go into what wonderful pro careers his previous quarterbacks have had. He's a clown of the highest order.

Not real smart of him to criticize the accomplishments of an NFL head coach.

C'mon...that's not fair and you know it.

Kliff Kingsbury would have been a dynamite pro...the NFL was just "notoriously bad" in their evaluation of him.

Mangini has a Super Bowl ring and has led a team to the playoffs as a head coach. Remind me again what Mike Leach's biggest accomplishment is.

Exhibit 1 of "notoriously bad" quarterback evaluation: Leach pupil Tim Couch. I guess he has a point.

They sure did a great job evaluating Tim Couch.

Oh, too slow.

I doubt he makes much of a pro QB but the best thing that ever happened to Stephen McGee is getting away from the coaching jokes that have been in College Station.

That made me think of Reggie McNeal, who was supposed to be a superstar. Just looked him up. He plays for Toronto now.

Couch wasn't as bad as most people like to think. He was just plagued by a bad team.

However, I'm still don't think he was worthy of the #1. But, he was the better of the 2 options at the time. You know who the other top rated QB was at the time? Akili Smith. Scored an 8 on his Wonderlic test.

Better than McNabb?

You have to remember that McNabb wasn't one of the Browns targets.

Most people thought it was a bad pick by the Eagles at the time. And, most people also think that they should've taken Ricky Williams.

It's only in hindsight that we can say that it was dumb of the Browns not to take McNabb. Although, I believe McNabb would have most likely suffered the same fate as Couch, had he been drafted #1 overall.

i actually tend to agree. i'm not saying couch would have been an elite qb at the pro level. but i at least think he could have been decent had he landed in a better situation.

So......................they had to pick one of the two, or get blasted left and right.
That's what happens when spineless execs concern themselves with what Joe Six Pack thinks. If you're allowing what some talk radio caller working the counter at 7-11 thinks about your pick to have any influence, you should be terminated immediately.

Al Davis tends to agree with this sentiment. I mean, I understand what you're trying to get at and all. And it's not even the fans that the Browns would have got ganged up on by. It would have been the blowhards, who claim to know everything, like a Mel Kiper, or a Mike Mayock, that would have been the most vocal about it.

Toronto's not a bad CFL club to end up with.

<-----------Note the avatar. Condredge Holloway as an Argo, although his circumstances were much different than the player previously mentioned.

He played with the Packers for awhile and was evidently terrible. His most recent foray into the league saw him unable to get into the top 3 QBs of the Jaguars.

Tee Martin decided to coach at a crappy college rather than play for the Argos.
