Mike Leach calls em like he sees em

1) Agree with that.

2) Actually, INT numbers and completion % can somewhat be attributable to a bad offensive line. By having to rush the throw, you have a greater chance of throwing it to a spot where you don't want to throw it.

3) Except that the guys in the latter slots in the 1st round are usually sitting behind veteran QB's, or have a great team and tools to work with.

And if I remember right, Couch had the better intelligence out of the two top prospects at the time.

The Titans have the most veteran QB in the league, a good offensive line, and Vince Young still sucks.

I said that Carr, given a good team and a good offensive line, would have made a decent NFL QB. Nothing really more, or nothing really less.

He was atrocious with the Panthers. 13 sacks in 4 starts in 2007. The very next year Delhomme gets sacked 20 times in 16 starts.

Vince Young has all of that and most would not consider him "decent." Give him some more arm strength and that doesn't change. Decision-making is huge.

EDIT: kpt beat me to it.

Funny how much better that Falcon o-line got with Matt Ryan under center.

The Falcons o-line was much maligned for letting Michael Vick and Joey Harrington get sacked all the time . . . then basically the same personnel gave up about 20 sacks last year. Coincidence?

I've never bought into that school of thought. An o-lineman who doesn't block because of who is taking snaps behind him doesn't deserve a place in the league, and would probably have proven to be a bust much earlier than that. IIRC, when Harrington was playing for the Falcons, their center was the only player who wasn't a rookie or 2nd year player. That's assuming their depth chart from last season is the same from '07. Including a rookie left tackle. I live about a mile and a half from where he played HS ball and a lot of people are still bummed out by his career... I suspected he would be a bust in the NFL, but I don't think he ever really got a fair shake, either. In ATL he had a completely wet behind the ears O-line and in Miami, he had an o-line that went on to be part of a 1-15 team next season while having the most successful season of any Dolphins QB since '03.

Oh yeah, and Texas Tech QB's = Colt Brennan

They're all system qbs who put up alot of numbers b/c of the pretty much "pass-only" and "pass-often" style of play.

NFL scouts have pretty much wised up to them in the same way they wised up to QBs coming out of Spurrier's UF weren't great QBs, they just were good at running the system

Look at expansion teams drafting a qb and see the level of success. It's not great and the Browns surely knew that.

Honestly, look at expansion teams and success in general. Save Jacksonville and Carolina's early successes, it's not a flattering history. Carolina did finally get good and make it to a Super Bowl, but other than that, Cleveland, the Texans, Jax, have kinda struggled overall. Seems like these teams can never get over the hump or maybe have at at most like 3 good years (if houston makes the right moves they could maybe).

Just seems like in general, having to start off as an expansion team is a really hard mountain to climb.

They have...though Leach would call it "bad evaluation"

I think most have already. Graham Harrell should have been a top 10 pick had they not.

I meant should in a "watch and see, they will" sense rather than "they need to" sense.

Sorry bout that confusion; I'll edit it a bit
