Non playoff bowls do not matter, anymore. Take your extra practices and be happy, Mike.
The schools shouldn't accept the bowl money if that's gonna be the attitude. Watered down products suck and CFB is now just another form of entertainment. The money is better spent on reruns of Saved By The Bell.

Hmmmmm I can do something with virtually no meaning, that could cost me millions and millions of dollars, or I could play it safe. I love Leach but he's already a millionaire. Maybe the NCAA should allow schools to buy huge injury policies for bowl games. 10 million for a career ender? Then you'd probably see everyone play and not opt out.

Playing South Alabama had virtually no meaning and the risk of injury was the same as any game. Why not opt out of that game too?

If a player wanted to do that, I'd be fine with it. I'm not gonna criticize some poor kid for making a financial decision that could change the fortune of his entire family for multiple generations.

He wasn’t hired until January 9th, well after WASU had completed their season. I don’t see the connection that you’re trying to make.

His last contact extended him through 2024, therefore, he didn’t fulfill his obligation and quit on Washington St.

That’s a reach. He was critical of players opting out of bowl games because he thought that they weren’t “finishing the season.” If you can find me a quote where he’s critical of players transferring or leaving early for the NFL, then I’ll agree with you that he’s being a hypocrite.

We’ll agree to disagree then

With us now having basically legalized gambling, I have a feeling that this will not be the last you will hear on the issue.

Face it, a star QB sitting out a bowl game is going to be a big swing of points to the other team if the announcement is made at the proper time. You can probably see where I'm going with this.

Tbh I think it would be weird for a coach who wanted or thought it’s a great thing for players to opt out of bowl games

bowl games became pretty much meaningless once the BCS was created. Add that to the fact that there are now double the amount of bowl games as compared to 1998, and they’ve basically lost all meaning.
I’d say the bowl games were largely meaningless before the BCS too. There was one, maybe two, that had bearing on who would be the NC. All other bowl games played mean as much now as they did then.

Agreed. Leach is wrong on this.

If a guy knows he will be drafted and doesnt want to risk injury playing in the Dukes Mayo Bowl or the Gator Bowl I have no problem with that.

Entertain me at the highest level possible or GTFO.
That is an embarrassingly selfish attitude. In no particular order: Mike Leach is a buffoon and the players owe you nothing. They have helped bring their schools millions of dollars over their career. If anything, the school should owe them a cut of the earnings while they are there. It is the player’s decision and nobody else counts. This is pro sports now. Deal with it.
