America's Border War Has Begun: TODD BENSMAN's dramatic eyewitness report on Texas' invasion of a Mexican cartel island crawling with gang members and ringed with sniper nests... and it's all happening INSIDE the U.S.
In the early dawn's orange glow, a Texas Rangers commander briefs a heavily armed invasion force.
They're preparing to seize a remote, 170-acre Mexican cartel-controlled island in the middle of the Rio Grande River overlooked by sniper nests and potentially booby-trapped.
Some of the dozens of assembled men shift from one foot to another or reposition their M-4 rifles as they listen to their commanders' instructions.
'Keep a close eye on those structures up there that have height advantage on us,' he warns.
'In case we do get engaged and someone is shot' medical evacuation plans are in place and there are blood bags if the wounded need a transfusion, he assures them.
This may seem like a scene from a far-flung war zone.
But it's just a glimpse of the hot war on America's southern border – a direct consequence of an out-of-control crisis that has resulted in nearly five million illegal migrants entering the United States since President Joe Biden was inaugurated in 2021.

You flip flop around so much it's hard to keep up with what you stand for.

“Not sure. But that's not the financial issue i'm talking about. Actual deportation is what will sink us. A wall is an unoriginal idea that may help, but we have to man the border. That's the bottom line. A fence won't keep people out.”

Verdict: Walls could help. It’s plausible.
“The wall is stupid. You said shrinking departments twice and failed to point out the money goes to Trump's preferred projects. Bringing back manufacturing isn't inherently good and his tactics are questionable at best. Consumer confidence in this moment means almost nothing in the...”

Verdict: Walls are stupid.
“About 2 out of 3 illegals cross the border legally. The wall will not be 100% effective. Even if it is, it can only stop a maximum of 33% of illegal immigration. A wall will not save you.”

“Link? Do you mean "alternatives"? What is the alternative you speak of? A wall is costly and will likely not prove to be a good ROI. I can guarantee you that we can save money and resources and improve on the problem with smarter government, so how in the hell could spending $ on a wall be a...”

Verdict: Walls are just economically sound. That’s all.
“I'm serious about fixing immigration and getting the border under control, and I find the idea of a wall as a solution to be a laughable waste of money and attention.”

Verdict: Walls are stupid and a complete waste of money.
“Right now, a huge portion of the chaos at the border pertains to refugees and asylum seekers. Is a complete wall a deterrent on some level? Yes. Would it be much more than a dent? Doubtful. Will we get our money's worth? Not a chance in hell. Trump's Border Wall Torn Apart by Arizona Monsoon...”

Certainty one way of interpreting the data.
I believe the data speaks for itself. Sometimes you think the Wall is a waste of time, a waste of money, and is a stupid idea. Other times, it’s a plausible solution. It’s not a bad idea, but not the best idea. It is something to be considered for sure.OK, what is another? You did all this legwork, now make your point.
You think because over the years I entertained different levels of effectiveness of a wall, I'm a flip flopper. I see nothing that says I changed my mind about a wall as a sound investment.
It's also OK to change your mind about something. Like when @hog88 convinced me to change my mind about Obama's deportation numbers. The bad kind of flip flopping is when the players/teams cause you to switch your position. I don't do that.
My record on the border is consistent. I've been critical of the last 3 presidents about it. I've been critical of how both sides inconsistently view the admins. It's all here on VN. Doesn't matter to you.

But people are free to make their own interpretations.
And yes, it’s completely ok to change your mind on something. Never changing your mind on anything is a sign of stubbornness, not virtue.
I agree. A Wall by itself is not enough. But it is something. And it’s certainly better than listening to the same talking point I hear every cycle from spineless republicans and could give a sh*t less democrats. It's one piece of a multi prong solution that is needed. To do nothing is foolish. It's the same mentality they had when it came to piece talks in the Middle East. Trump broke the mode on that too.
Actually it was my model and he stole it. I've been advocating for this well before Vivek came on the scene.
