Milton’s One Hurdle

Our biggest difference is HH vs jm
Yeah but the OL is a very different picture as well. Milton had all day to throw against a good Clemson D at the end of the year last year. He was absolutely smothered last night. Would HH have handled it better? Probably, but we also saw what happened when even last year’s line didn’t hold up. We would have had less than 50 yards rushing if it wasn’t for Wright literally carrying people on his back. This line has serious issues. We need Mays back in a big way.

Last year we had a supremely talented and old team. This year we are trying to fill those holes with lesser players. College football had a bunch of old dudes and guys with Covid redshirts playing last year, and most of those guys across the country are gone. Our team from last season would wipe the floor with anything in the SEC right now and it isn’t close. College football is way lower quality than it was last year, and I am having to realize that.

Somewhat agree. But doubt mays makes that big of a difference. We have NO deception with this offense. We are 1 dimensional with the current qb. Even bad sec defenses will feast on that

I heard the stat last evening that Milton had never made a pass on the run before. He isn’t a runner. He doesn’t like it and it isn’t natural to him. So, I also somewhat agree that is a bit of an issue. But if our running backs aren’t getting holes either, it indicates a bigger issue IMO. It’s not just Mays. We are also missing Wright in a bad way.

I think we can pinpoint Milton’s main limitation (thus far) to one thing. If he conquers it the ceiling is immeasurable. If he doesn’t, SEC road games are scary.

He plays tight when the game is tight. And plays loose (really well) when games are in hand.

Same with Clemson. There was an alternation of what felt like 5 or 6 possessions where it was a one possession game.

Once we shook free he played freely the rest of the way. Saw the same thing today. It’s a factor if he’s in a road environment with the crowd on his back. He needs to hit a few important balls early in Gainesville.

I don’t think he plays too tight at all. To me, it looks like he’s way too relaxed, like a game isn’t going on and they are still at practice. Slow to get to the line, he barely moves in the pocket and waits too long on his primary target, then when the play breaks down it’s like he’s just trying to get the play over with instead of making something happen.

They rarely show him talking to his teammates on the sidelines during the game. He just sits on the bench waiting to go back in.

I think the guy has all the athletic tools, he just not a baller.
