Milton got hurt in 2021 vs Pitt.. and we lost. What has changed?

The WRs as a whole could play better. Tonights performance was evident of that. OL and secondary had issues as well. The team’s struggles are not solely on Milton.
OL was doing very well until it was evident they weren't going to throw the ball past the LOS

You guys chill out. It’s game two. We werent exactly rolling last year at this point either. We had a combination of things that happened tonight. No running through the T, Delay etc. Off a little tonight. Peay came to play and they were physical. The game was not called both ways either with the sh1t ACC crew. It is what it was... Little adversity never hurts. Get the bad game put of the way early when we can afford it.
Agreed on the officiating and I certainly understand the delay and all. However, this was a pretty poor performance against a really bad FCS team. They didn’t even bother setting a betting line for this game. I don’t think the sky is falling but there’s enough “off” from the game to warrant concern, especially if you’re expecting the team to go 9-3 or 10-2.

Uh the orange bowl was just last season. Only 2 games removed from it. Weird post
You wearing your high school lettermen jacket right now? Clemson was a lot worse off then than we originally thought. If you don’t have concerns after tonight then you didn’t watch the same game I did.

Crap is eeking out a win against a FCS team and people like you trying to tell everyone there’s no reason for concern. The butch/Pruitt years have made you to comfortable with getting handed turds and people telling you it’s a Hershey bar.
Concern is warranted but your other post was crap.

Im disappointed I paid money to see the game. I definitely think we are struggling with the new OC and play calls. Milton was off a little bit but the receivers didn't do their part either. OL left some out there as well. All in all we won a game we had some adversity and bad play. Should we have struggled no. However we did, the season starts next week.

The season certainly starts next week. Here’s hoping they learn from this and move forward. Go Vols!

His first game of the season, vs Bowling Green: (Note, 2021 Season here)

View attachment 577785

He was average then, and he gets pulled the next game from average play with 8 minutes in the 2nd quarter. He wasn't a world beater against Clemson in the orange bowl (BTW, Clemson is NOT good)... and (Joe) hasn't looked "great" this year.. yea, he can throw and orange 100 yards but that means nothing. Why are we hyping him so much ? I'm not calling for Nico (yet), but Joe isn't the answer here sadly.. and if he's all we got.. We'll have to work for 8 wins this year. Yes, the WR's dropped a lot today.. but something just feels off so far this year.

Thoughts?
You didn't pay attention. He was putting the ball on the money. Can only recall one uncatchable throw. You just haven't had a coach that can develop talent in a decade and a half so u don't think players can get better

He was 22-33. A drop or 2 in there. 228 yards, no turnovers. Missed on some.
A couple good runs.
Nothing to get excited about, but didn’t play any worse than the rest of the offense.
The O line didn’t dominate like they should of and the receivers didn’t do anything special.
Fact is he’s won the last 4 games he started and the other 3 weren’t really close.
Bad game all around for the most part.
Don’t expect him to be Hendon for sure but not acting like he’s costing us wins unless it actually happens either

Milton is only 2 games removed from an Orange Bowl MVP performance vs a good Clemson defense. Could he struggle this year? Absolutely. Is taking a game we barely even showed up for as an indicator as to what will happen the entire season smart? Nope.
This sounds like common sense and rational understanding. I like it.

The wide receivers were atrocious in the first half. I didn’t get to see the rest of the game. Something tells me we will rush more against FL. Strange our entire team played horribly when Nico was unable to play.

He’s undefeated since starting after Hooker got hurt. Why don’t you wait until we actually lose a game before you bitch and moan
I’m not bitching and moaning. I’m making a commonsense observation. He’s not been good. He beat Vandy at the end of the year in which he threw for hardly any yards. We ran for like 400 yards in that game if you remember. Then we had a good performance against Clemson. That was Milton‘s best game but if you go back and watch it again, he was more of a game manager than anything missing several big shots to wide open targets throughout the game.

This whole quit your Bitchin… This is a fan message board. People post their opinions and theories. Everybody on this board lives and dies with Vol football and wants to see us win. People are concerned because we have amazing skill position players and an incredible scheme. But if you don’t have a quarterback that can hit wide open targets most of time… You’re not going to have a good team. It’s that simple.

WR’s also dropped passes and protection wasn’t very good today, not to mention all the penalties. Milton could have been better but it’s not all on him. We look like we’re going to be a run heavy team with a decent defense this year. 8-4 or 9-3.
They did drop a few, but they were poorly thrown. Let's be real.

I'm going to give Joe bulletin board material the rest of the year to light a fire in him for his Heisman run. Imma be real hard on him haha.

Some of the passes were behind the wrs - accounting for the drops / allowing defenders to get their hands into the ball or the receiver - he was terrible against BG and we had to revert to throwing to the sidelines much like we did today against AP. When everyone in the stadium sees an all out run blitz on third and one or fourth and one - somehow he doesn't, and he never changes his snap count. He is however quick to do a dance and flash a show me the money sign when he does anything - even when he and the team are underperforming against AP and others.

You are correct - We don't win 8 games with that kind of qb play - hopefully he improves dramatically this next week.

Only things changed deep rb room, defense tightened up, and milton bout to go to the bench if he loses to florida

It sounds to me like a lot of Vols fans are wanting Joe to fail. Everyone that is saying put Nico in are not giving Joe a chance, and I find it disgusting that we can’t support our starting quarterback, who really is not playing all that badly. The receivers have got to help him out and they had a lot of dropped passes that should have been caught.

I think coach ran a vanilla offense in both games.
Now is that by design or by necessity?
We're about to find out.

How long we gonna ride that orange bowl win against a mediocre Clemson for? I don’t wanna be hanging my hat on 98 and the orange bowl til I die. Next week should tell us a lot.
As a 59 yo man I've learned painfully not to put any of my self-esteem chips on a game played by teenagers. It's a loser's bet even when you're winning (see Bama's fan base).

Milton got hurt vs Pitt not pulled. Misleading titles. He has also won the last 4 games he started. Clemson had a good defense last year so them losing to Duke this year doesn't change that. I don't know what the point of this post is besides wanting to start a freshman in the Swamp which makes no sense.
Do you really think starting Milton again ANYWHERE makes sense. Think about it
