Milton got hurt in 2021 vs Pitt.. and we lost. What has changed?

Our play calling was kinda peculiar too......not a single go route. Throwing to by far the shortest WR on a deep post, and fade in the endzone.
Yeah, that go route worked so great for us last year because Hooker could put it where the receivers could catch it in stride. If Milton and Co. could perfect it , it's a lot safer play than that short pass along the sidelines = less chance for interception and a run back for a TD, less chance your receivers get hammered. But it requires the QB and receivers being on the same page & that comes from practice during the week

Milton has been given plenty of opportunity since coming to Tennessee. There is plenty of respect on this board for the man.

Joe just is not going to be the answer going forward and Huep clearly knows this. He gave snaps to Nico last week and took the pass out of Joes hands last night. Huep will bring Nico along as quickly as possible.

For me, the xfer to a new QB can't happen fast enough. No hate. Just trusting my eyes and history.

You’re the one that seems like you don’t understand what transpired yesterday.
I know what transpired. It really doesn’t matter what the fans think should happen. I’ll admit, Milton needs to play better. No argument whatsoever. The truth is, Heupel isn’t going to bench JM at 2-0.

Well, we did the same thing with subpar QB play, and it got other coaches fired. Guarantano.

His first game of the season, vs Bowling Green: (Note, 2021 Season here)

View attachment 577785

He was average then, and he gets pulled the next game from average play with 8 minutes in the 2nd quarter. He wasn't a world beater against Clemson in the orange bowl (BTW, Clemson is NOT good)... and (Joe) hasn't looked "great" this year.. yea, he can throw and orange 100 yards but that means nothing. Why are we hyping him so much ? I'm not calling for Nico (yet), but Joe isn't the answer here sadly.. and if he's all we got.. We'll have to work for 8 wins this year. Yes, the WR's dropped a lot today.. but something just feels off so far this year.

Thoughts?
I agree and this offense is about consistency, we are going to miss Hooker more than we all thought probably. We’ve had other qbs who you just knew you could count on to pick up a 3rd and 6, Milton isn’t that. Great arm talent, who I think try’s to make up for slow progression with his incredibly strong arm but throws are late because of it. This season we are going to look great at time and we will look like we did yesterday. The orange bowl was like that, huge plays but inconsistent on just running the offense.

I think JM is a slow IN-GAME processor, looks amazing in practice.

JM missed some passes (so did Hooker at times) but WRs have been the biggest issue I’ve seen this yr. Just not where they should be right now.

Sports fans, on average, have a lot more passion than brains. Living from the emotions. The ups and downs make them feel alive. The available problem expands to fill the space, so you can be just as unhappy beating AP as you are losing to Georgia State. I guess that does keep your glands all cleaned out, I don’t know. It extends all the way to complete delusion, which makes me really uncomfortable in person. Go back to the game thread last night and look at the number of people who declared that squirrel caught a pass after replay showed the earth caught it. It’s not reasonable.

Tennessee doesn’t have to win a natty every year and I think the staff can take a long term approach if they want to. We’ll see. I’m not paying for the entertainment I get so I don’t feel too entitled.

I think Huep plays to the strength of the players. I hope Nico gets some reps in practice to get him ready in case he's needed.

I’m not bitching and moaning. I’m making a commonsense observation. He’s not been good. He beat Vandy at the end of the year in which he threw for hardly any yards. We ran for like 400 yards in that game if you remember. Then we had a good performance against Clemson. That was Milton‘s best game but if you go back and watch it again, he was more of a game manager than anything missing several big shots to wide open targets throughout the game.

This whole quit your Bitchin… This is a fan message board. People post their opinions and theories. Everybody on this board lives and dies with Vol football and wants to see us win. People are concerned because we have amazing skill position players and an incredible scheme. But if you don’t have a quarterback that can hit wide open targets most of time… You’re not going to have a good team. It’s that simple.

This covers what I was trying to get at in my original post. Joe has not been a difference maker.. that matters in big games. Again, I'm not saying we bench him for Nico because nobody here knows better then the HC himself if that is the right move, but we're just a above average team with Joe in.

The stats tell the story in each game Joe has played. If fans can't see that I'm sorry..

I rewatched the Pitt game from last year and we didn't look that great either. Not saying joe is Hendon but if he and the recivers clean up a few things they can be really good. Running game should be better this year as well.
