I think they planned on redshirting him anyway. The somewhat new NCAA rules allow freshmen to play up to 4 games and still be eligible for redshirt.

I think unfortunately you may have nailed it. Not a popular opinion - and he is better than last year's version, but I think you are on the right track. Fortunately, there will be other options and it could play out like last season.

How does a coach not pick the guy who wins the spring and fall practice? Or in Milton's case just the fall. Clearly everything worked out good but I find it hard to believe Heupel and the staff stubbornly chose Milton over Hooker just because "he was their guy". That's ridiculous.

Happens every day. Milton played a little worse than he appeared in practice - Hooker played a little better.

Milton was 4-7 with 135 yards and a TD in less than 2 quarters while playing with several backups. What more did you want the man to do?

But its against UTM, you should be DRIVING down the field no matter who is out there with him.
