Milton QBR

This and I have read on Volnation that - it is all the fault of the receivers and the offensive line.
Do you think the recievers and offensive line share in the level of performance?
Do you think that if the recievers caught the balls they should have caught and the line gave him adequate protection his rating would be a little higher? significantly higher?

This is not intended to be another Milton sucks post. Just looking at the raw numbers. His current QBR ranking is #63: 2023 College Football Season Leaders Total QBR | ESPN. For perspective that is well below many other SEC QBs, including Jalen Milroe at Bama which I find funny because everyone thinks Bama does not have a QB this year. Yet the QB they do not have is 23 places above ours. Just a reminder The formula for this rating involves the number of passing yards, touchdowns, pass completions, interceptions and other actions recorded by the player. The highest possible quarterback rating is 100, while the lowest is zero. I guess for those of you who feel our offense is off even though he shows moments of brilliance you really are correct. His production numbers are not competitive with the rest of the conference.
I am still scratching my head at why we don't throw to our Tight ends more often. It's the largest target possible to catch a pass on the field. Forget downfield routes and just go pass the first down marker and post up (turn around). It's the most common play in the NFL..

I read a preseason article that mentioned Hooker and Jacob Warren never got on the same page last year. We should have triple the number of passes to our tight ends than we have so far, so I think it's more our play calling or scheme of the offense we run.

We have three great Tight Ends that can catch. Ethan Davis looked amazing in the Spring game.

The Big Tuna/Bill Parcells says, “You are what your numbers say you are.”

I am disappointed Joe has not put up better numbers 4 games into this season. Especially since 2 of those should have been punching bags for us where he could have inflated his stats.

Taking all that into consideration I still find myself in solid support of Joe. I’m not ready to do otherwise unless the wheels come off between now and the 3rd week of October. If he’s not getting it done in Tuscaloosa by early 3rd quarter down there, put in Nico and play all seniors sparingly and get the Vols better prepped for next season.

We are 3-1. That’s all that matters.

1. Stats are super helpful, and QBR is, for the most part, a good one.
2. QBR does nothing to account for receivers dropping passes and an OL that let's people in the backfield every single play.

Joe hasn't played up to his potential yet, but he's not the 63rd best QB in college football right now.
Better than 63 or worse?

Does USCjr have a better Oline than ours? Let's see what Rattler does with an inferior line compared to ours. It will give us some comparison, I think, to see what Joe does and see what Rattler does behind struggling lines.

Rattler is a much better QB than Milton. Nobody is going to argue that.

If we hadn’t thrown so many wide receiver screens this year I think his QBR would be even lower. Seriously, you watch an entire game with him and how many incredibly poor throws he makes… then scroll channels, and watch two or three other major college football games and tell me he isn’t the worst of all the QBs you see.

He plays in what is in my opinion, the number one offensive scheme in college football giving him 5–7 shots per game wide-open down the field, resulting from complete defensive breakdowns.

Obviously his rating would be higher. But he has usually had a pretty clean pocket - missing passes behind them, coming out of breaks at great velocity - a lot of passes you are claiming should have been caught are typically not caught by any school's receivers. Fixing all flaws with the oline and the wr's results in a higher rating. The rating would be a little higher - it could and would have been much higher if he was simply more accurate and could hit receivers in stride coming out of their breaks. Then his qb rating would be significantly higher.

Granted there's no doubt Milton needs to play better, but I'm skeptical of the calculations. For example, Bo Nix is rated #20, yet he is supposedly the front runner for the Heisman trophy.

Uh oh. The Milton sunshine pumpers heads are gonna explode, and it’s all your fault, not Joe’s NO. He is absolutely fabulous. IT’s everyone else’s fault (OL,DB,OC,NEGA VOLS, NON FLAG THROWING REFS,but this can not be a reflection on Milton’s incompetence. He has reached god like status here for some sycophants, mostly the same who praised JG,pruitt, lyle. It is so important to them that they never, ever appear to be negative or god forbid the R word. Bless their hearts

Last I saw it was a team game. So who else ya got besides Hadden. He probably hurt us far more than Joe.
No he has not. We scored 16 in the swamp. That is not hadden’s fault. Don’t get me wrong hadden is horrible. The QB on an offensive oriented team is much, much more important

Rattler has been sacked 16 times, Milton 4. Outside of KY & Georgia, TN has allowed the fewest sacks in the SEC.

You could make a strong argument that a majority of the SEC teams are dealing with their opponents living in their backfield.

Numbers do not lie. There is a deficiency. You got a lotta nerve posting that here; though........
JG haters will forever deny this.

But...I'd say the truth is maybe somewhere in the middle for both players. JG was tied to the worst rushing attack in the SEC b2b years and ATROCIOUS OLs.

Yes, Joe is causing some of his own shortcomings, but it's obvious to see how he played vs last year's OL vs this one, as well.

Nuance and all that...

Kinda ironic the 4 lower rated below Milton are 4 of the worst sec teams. Surely it’s not due to their QB. Maybe their receivers drop balls, maybe the refs aren’t calling PI against their receivers, maybe their OL line is terrible, hell maybe they even have a hadden playing db. I do know it’s not because of the nega VOLS
