I looked to see if anyone had posted about this. I hadn’t heard about it until today. Champion cheerleader from Virginia. Used a racial slur on social media when she was 15. Apologized for it repeatedly according to several witnesses. Bi-racial classmate held onto the video until she was accepted to Tennessee and then went viral with it and forwarded it to UT. UT revoked spot on the cheer squad and her admission. New York Times published article celebrating the kid getting his teenage classmate “cancelled “. Turns out that the football team isn’t the most embarrassing thing about this University.

This is not surprising. It's the way of our world right now, not just here in Tennessee. They don't want the backlash right now so they throw out the one admission.

The video was racist. That word is racist.

But she was young and foolish like every single one of us here. If she apologized and moved past it, she should have the opportunity to cheer at UT.

Cancel culture should be cancelled.
Agreed, although if I'm being honest, I'm not even sure the video was racist.

I've been in multiple situations where I'm in the racial minority. Learned a lot from it. That word is racist regardless the context or usage. Don't believe me? Move somewhere that you're in the minority and drop it in conversation.

The only thing that has improved from this incident is our collective sense of self-riteousness. Let's scrutinize what everyone has done their entire lives and provide the punishment the internet mob thinks they deserve!

There is a reason we don’t try minors as adults in criminal cases. Young people are still developing a sense of propriety and what is and is not allowable at that age. Just like we wouldn’t prosecute a 15 year old with a sentence that follows them into adulthood, so also their social media history should be largely disregarded at that age. How many of us would be up the you know what creek if everything we said at that age had been recorded?

So if you use one horrible word at 15 you are a pariah for life? But if you are a legal adult in college and have your picture put in the yearbook wearing either blackface or an actual KKK costume, you can still be governor of Virginia. Do I have that right?

Just to clear it up for everyone, this was the quote that is costing her admission:

"I can drive, n*****s!" (in reference to getting her learners permit).

That's it. That, sent as a snapchat to her friends. Way to stand up for what's right, UT.
