Mimi Groves/UT revoked admission

Just to clear it up for everyone, this was the quote that is costing her admission:

"I can drive, n*****s!"

That's it. That, sent as a snapchat to her friends. Way to stand up for what's right, UT.
What is the context. That's the problem with social media, you never understand the context of written words.

She got her learners permit and said something she shouldn’t have said. It wasn’t directed at anyone. It’s not like she said it to a car load of black folks.

The video was racist. That word is racist.

But she was young and foolish like every single one of us here. If she apologized and moved past it, she should have the opportunity to cheer at UT.

Cancel culture should be cancelled.

Let's say she's a racist. Doesn't a racist have a right to an education at a state funded school? I don't see what someone's views on race have to do with wanting to better yourself with a higher degree. That sounds like discrimination on the part of the institutions of higher learning.

The cheerleader part is why this happened. She would have been an ambassador of the University, prominently featured at multiple events outside of just athletics. The PR risk was considered too great for the talents she had to offer.

And college usually does a good job of providing people with context and experiences that help then to be more open of others. I am sad that she has been deprived of that opportunity.

They could have suspended her for a year or told her that she couldn’t cheer but was still welcome to be a student here. Once they pressured her to pass up her admission they clearly had no intention of helping her grow and learn from her experience. But Banks can come back to the football team.

Banks generates revenue. Sad, but the truth.

Your party is the one who pushes this and supports this. Why are you complaining

If the standard for school ambassador in never having said a racial slur we should cancel the football and basketball programs.

Someone will probably teach him a lesson one day.

The thing is, that youngin just painted a target on his back. He may think he's "teaching" her a lesson by basically ruining her image by dropping this when he did, but make no mistake, someone will do the same to him before long.

He's about to get a life lesson that you don't brag about such things and get away with it.

This word in all its forms needs to just go away.

I can't count the songs my kids play that have it in it.

I tell them to stop and turn it off but every rapper now uses it and they sell their music predominantly to white kids.

So white kid then emulates rapper thinking they are cool.

This girl probably thought she was being cool and now has this to deal with.

A good portion of rap music spouts out racist language a million times more than any David Allan Coe song ever written.

I think my biggest issue is the fact the Times decided to make a national spectacle of it. I don't even recall seeing anything about it until now.

The young lady already got beat up over it by not getting into college. Drawing national attention to it is not helping matters.

Probably not. He probably just earned a corporate BLM gig. Could be a Regional Looting Director straight out of college.

He’s still technically a teenager and hopefully will get his act together. My anger is at the “Adults “ at the NYT and the alleged “Adults “ comprising the UT administration/ admissions committee. If they had done the right Thing this is a nothing story.
