Mimi Groves/UT revoked admission

I stand corrected .
It was 200 years.
It was quoted by Robert McMillian, Air Force One steward.
Johnson said this to 2 governors.
Believe what you will , as is your right.
I will continue to believe the 1964 Civil Rights Act had more to do with political gain than any concern for people with darker skin pigmentation.
Lyndon Johnson was a lot of things.
Being an astute politician was near the top of the list.

My mistake...you were/are referring to the quote attributed to Johnson by Kessler...fair enough. I had forgotten about this. I can absolutely picture lbj uttering these words.

A fantastically flawed man. Also the last democrat with a brass pair that gave a sh** about the working class

We lived in Petal, just off Hwy 11. I saw more tornados in my four years there than in the 39 I've lived anywhere else. The covert racism that turned overt during the flag protests turned my stomach. So much hatred and anger over skin pigmentation. But there's a lot I do miss, and when I go down in May to walk the stage I can't wait to see those people.

But the heat and humidity can go die in a ditch somewhere.
I was pretty well acclimated to that kind of heat and humidity before I moved there, having spent the previous 6 years in Houston.

USM was about the only thing Hattiesburg had going for it, in my opinion, but USM had nothing to do with why I was there.

The saving grace for me was an older dude, a UT grad and professor of Audiology at USM who flagged me down one day because I was riding a BMW motorcycle. He had a few Beemers himself and was into fooling around with cars too. He let me use his tools and his garage to rebuild the engine on my 911 that summer.

The video was racist. That word is racist.

But she was young and foolish like every single one of us here. If she apologized and moved past it, she should have the opportunity to cheer at UT.

Cancel culture should be cancelled.
Our country used to be a society which rewarded contrition with mercy. We were a society where second chances could be earned. Now, we are vindictive and unrelenting. It would have taken some courage of conviction for UT's admissions office to have shown some compassion for this young lady following the revelation of such a mistake... I'm sorry to see that they didn't have any.

Also the last President to whip out his willie at a press meeting and whip it around to make sure they stopped asking him questions.

We seem to forget how, um, interesting many of our former presidents were outside of their political views.

I dont think it would take much courage at all. Common sense goes a long way on this one.

A teenager can murder someone and if tried as a juvenile and convicted, their criminal record is sealed and can’t be used against them as an adult. Say something stupid on social media at any age and your guilt is absolute and your sentence is an almost total character assassination by masses of the offended.

Probably a good lesson as to why you shouldn't say stupid stuff on social media.

Now I'm off to review all my VolNation posts for stupidity...

Cant say I know any professors today and sure it matters which degree. I received my PS degree in 1989 and saw my share of it back then, so cannot imagine today. My ecomomics professor was open about his communism. Actually a down to earth fellow and good teacher.

Ever take a Women in Politics class and be one of only 3 males out of 15 or so in the class? Lucky to escape with your manhood.

I took a lot of political science classes in the early 2000's and the only professor that got partisan was an admittedly right wing Vietnam Vet. I can't remember his name but the only thing I took away from his class was that "Platoon" was the most realistic Vietnam movie he had seen.

I took a global studies class at UT from Prof. Asafa Jalata (I think he is still there). I'm very liberal myself... but he would even make me uncomfortable with some of his anti-western rhetoric. What I took from his class, was that white people are greedy liars. LOL.

Yes. Its 15 percent she was foolish, 70 percent he's a jackarse, and 15 percent there are complaints about race relations in that area.

1 percent she was foolishly young, 50 percent he was being an utter douchebag, 49 percent the NYT was being completely irresponsible even making it a story unless it was to shame him.

Which it really wasn't...

The guy is a douche bag, but the real villain here is UT. They could have stood up for their student, but they were too gutless. This makes me mad. I'm not the type who ever sends e-mails to complain but I am in this case. I haven't donated much as an alum but I have a little and I get solicited for donations all the time. I'm going to find appropriate personnel to p*** and moan to and send a well-worded e-mail. I think we all should... probably won't make a difference, but this is our school and they are making us look like idiots.

I thought it did. I left it thinking he's a hateful schmuck who is so jaded by his perception of race relations problems that he can't forgive a simple and quite minor indiscretion.

I applaud you. That said, the gatekeepers will most likely prevent your email being read by anyone that holds power. But if enough emails like yours are sent then the overall message will make it up to the brass.

He without sin can cast the 1st stone. What a travesty. She could’ve said literally anything else in any language and not been publicly shamed like that. Think about it... she could’ve said Im gonna get pregnant and eat my baby and nothing would’ve been done... nothing

I remember getting a call one night when I was at MTSU..... around 1:30 or so.... I said hello... the voice on the other end said “are you f’ed up?”..... I answered “no”.... the voice said ... “then come and get me. I’m at the Dodge Market over by Main Street and the cop gave me five minutes to run over here to the phone and get someone to come get us or he’s taking us to jail”..... I got there and two of my other friends were with him by the police car.... and one guy that went to HS with me that had been rumored to have screwed my ex GF during our break up. I got out and told the cop I was there to get “these three”..... he asked me about the other guy and I said “nah... F him”
I knew there was something about you I really liked

Don't you think that the whole scenario makes her look immature at the time and poor judgment but remorseful now, but he just looks like a complete jerk?

That’s not far off. I’d choose some stronger words for him.

The University of Tennessee looks worse than either of the two teens.

Like I say, I think they missed a real opportunity to come out looking thoughtful, reasonable, sensitive but practical and realistic, intellectual, motivated to address important topics, and on and on.

Instead they look afraid.
