Miss Last Year's Offensive Line Now?

Hurt? That doesn't even make sense.

And actually that's bull people kept saying they'd do better than expected... how long will it take?

Umm . . . you're not making sense. Did Worley not break his thumb? Did Peterman not get injured? Just wondering if i dreamed that last year.

How long will what take? THe line never lived up to expectations. Run game was not . . . dominant last year.

No, not really.

Then you need to step away from the crack pipe my friend, because you would have to be seriously stoned to not wish that last years o-line was still here and the guys that played last night had an additional year to develop.

You've got to be kidding. Worley could have gotten hurt and hurt bad a couple of dozen times last night... And, James and Fulton were Kiffin recruits.

Good point sir!

Just saying they werent great, they were better than last night, but thats a pretty low bar. Last year's crew were mostly 4 year starting SENIORS. Not questioning their loyalty. Just stating my opinion.

I don't know many times last year's starting offensive was described on this site as "underachievers." That was oblivious to the stats showing that group to be one of the very best power conference offensive lines at protecting passer over a two or three year period. (By the way, no one should expect Worley or any quarterback to handle that kind of repeated pasting any better than he did last night.) The run blocking last year wasn't so bad either when you consider that our receivers weren't exactly running wide open and most defenses showed little respect for our passing game.

Well, Ja'Wuan James is the starting RT for Miami, Zack Fulton is the starting LG for Kansas City, undrafted free agent James Stone is listed #2 LG for the Falcons, and the Minnesota Vikings decided Tiny Richardson was worth keeping on the roster at LT in spite of his bad knees. Underachievers?

Miss last year's offensive line now? Considering how many more playmakers we have this year, I sure do. If they had been out there last night, we might have gotten whipped but not by the pass rush.

No they are gone. It is funny though to read posts that cannot let the past go.

Well I would say underwhelming run blockers. Wish them all the best, but get behind these young guys, there is talent, young though. And OU have a beastly front 7

if we are going to go back, do you miss Peyton and Tee? Or jamal, travis, or travis? or do you miss Charles Mcrae, Antone Davis, Fred Weary? I miss haynesworth, Big John and Little as well. And raynoch and Al. And Deon Grant and Pickens and Dale Carter.
And the Colquitts.

Really, the past is the past. They ain't comin back so who cares?

In what respect were they underachievers? The statistics just don't back that up. The offensive line was our strength last year. Our receiver couldn't get open. Defenses put allot of guys in the box. Our quarterbacks had time to throw and NEVER got beaten down like Worley did last night. The QB injuries last year were thumb injuries for Christ's sake.

If you call them underachievers, you just don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah the did great against Oregon( what was that score) and Bama and Aubarn,,,,,,,,

Well, the scores of those games likely would have been different if the o-line was able to block, run the ball, and catch the ball all at the same time.

If I'm wishing then I'm wishing for one if the lines from the late 90's. Last years line was not on par with any of those units. They were good not great, but should have been great.

The key would be look at the 2010 line vs the 2014 line.. We had 1 starter with some experience Dallas Thomas and Sims took a serve beating. Remember OL pride? That line
had J James, Gooch/Stone and Fulton/Scholield. All three made it to the NFL

We had a good offensive line last year, which a lot of diehards stupidly refused to acknowledge because they somehow expected UT to run for 300 yards per game against SEC defenses that knew we had to run because our passing game was terrible. At least two and maybe three of those linemen are starting for NFL teams now. It was just fans being fans, looking for anything and everything to be optimistic about this year.

I'll take the growing pains with this new group. In the long run they will be better at both pass and run blocking than last years group. There is a toughness about them that was missing last year.

Our OL right now is awful. That fact, however, does not make me want back a largely in performing line that didn't step up and provide the leadership they needed to for last year's team. I'm willing to move on and roll with the guys on this year's team as they take their lumps and grow into, hopefully, the dominant OL that last year's never did.

They were so bad that they're all in the NFL... Word

Where did I say they were "so bad"? I didn't. Simply implied that they didn't live up to their hype/billing and didn't provide the leadership that last year's team needed from them to be successful. I wish them well in the NFL, am following them in their pro careers and I'm proud that they're representing the Volunteer program in the league.

Haha, yeah I miss a lot of players we've had in the past. It is one thing that makes college football different from the NFL.

Our OL will get better and we are gonna win our bowl game in a blowout.

Okay, last year there were too many false starts. But last year O line produced good numbers in the run game and in sacks allowed even though our passing game was a complete joke once Worley got hurt. If we still had those guys up front the Okie game would have been decided in the fourth quarter. I'd still give the Sooners at least 2:1 odds on winning, but there is NO WAY that last year's group would have wiffed on so many blocks. That game was basically never in doubt because as I recall about 50% of our pass plays allowed at least one rusher to come at Worley literally untouched. And this is with improved TE play! Last years O line with this year's tight ends would have added at least 14 points in the Vols' favor in Norman, anyone who can't see that just ain't watching the game.

To put up good rushing yards with relatively mediocre backs and no passing game to speak of is much more impressive than many posters here seem to realize.
