Missouri's SEC campaign

The press conference its for general questions and for other unrelated University news. We wont know anything until after the closed session.

I really couldnt tell you what they will talk about in the beginning as that is just speculation. Probably to just get it out the way quickly because the withdrawal will take all of the attention. But the session wil most likely just be general questions about the process. It wont last long and the application process will begin and move quickly.

Radio in KC said that board gave the chancellor authority to negotiate conference contracts without approval of the board. They are still being coy about things. They announced a plan to bring a basketball tournament to KC and to play a regional rival in Kansas City in football each year.

Probably wouldn't be doing these things if they were not leaving the Big 12. This appears to be an attempt to reach out to their KC fan base.

If you add 2+2; you see that Mizzou is going to be our next new conference member.

MU would not have come thus far if they were staying in the Bevo 12. Looks like we will have a new team in the SEC East.

I know this is a done deal, but this is a just a terrible fit culturally. Missouri vs the south is going to be ugly. I don't have that much of a Tennessee accent at all, but when I lived up there people treated me like a hillbilly. When they found out I was from Tennessee they literally expected me to have grown up not wearing shoes. Their fans vs SEC fans is going to be nasty sometimes.

Ok to sum up all of the events this is whats happening:

1. We are leaving. Our chairman kept reiterating the phrase "expeditious". I feel like withdrawal will come within the next few days. The Chairman doesnt need Board approval anymore so we really shouldnt be waiting long at all. Maybe Slive will be in Columbia in time for the TAMU Game.

2. All of the pleading from Kansas City will not hold us back. That is pretty much the only pebble in the path. However we are going to try to make sure we keep a Football Game and a Basketball game in K.C. So if kU tries to ***** out of playing us then its their fault as we have extended opportunities.

3. Where can I get an SEC Flag? Lol

I was just watching College Football Live and they were discussing how Missouri essentially has a list of demands if they join the SEC, these include: 1) a basketball tournament held in Kansas City; 2) a football game in Kansas City; and 3) to be admitted to the SEC next year. Now for me, personally, I am not too stoked about Missouri coming to the SEC. In fact, I think it is absurd to allow Missouri to enter the conference. Geographically it makes no sense and the athletic and academic program do nothing for the conference in any way whatsoever. They should be lucky in get an invite and the fact that they have a list of prerequisites they want before they come to the SEC just down right pisses me off. Why can't we just hold off a bit and then reassess the 14th team at a later date. It's not like there isn't a list of teams that would like to come to the SEC.

Those werent really a list of demands; that was almost all stuff directed at Kansas City to say "we're not forgetting you / screwing you over"

the game at Arrowhead stadium was a hand extended to KU (just like A&M talking to Texas about their game: so they dont look like the bad guys when KU ends the rivalry...which they will)

And they were talking about hosting a basketball tournament themselves, not forcing the SEC to hold a tournament there

...both of those were directed at the second largest city in the state worrying about their economy being hurt due to an impending missouri move

(as well as attempting to lessen any intent to cause "detrimental impact" to the conference they're leaving, mainly so they can talk down their conference leaving/buyout cause more, just like NU & CU did - and A&M will do)

....and the "next year" thing: that's directed at the Big 12 commish / ESPN saying "no they're locked into the big 12 for next year"

But if this is coming off to you as a list of demands to the SEC: you're reading it wrong

EDIT: Also, I just listened to what they said on CFL: there was nothing about demands whatsoever. Maybe you misheard when he said "plans"

Don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen. Since A&M announced they were headed to the SEC, three Big 12 teams have announced they have no desire to play us in the near term. They include:

Texas football (A. D. DeLoss Dodds)
Texas Men's basketball (Rick Barnes)
Baylor Women's basketball (Kim Mulkey)

Both Barnes and Mulkey said, 'hey, they left us, we didn't leave them.'

:eek:lol::lolabove:

Geography - Missouri borders 3 current SEC states, including Tennessee.
Athletically - They've had a top 10 football team more recently than us, and their basketball program is better.
Academics - Really? They would only be the 3rd AAU member in the league. They have a great academic reputation.

Throw in the fact that they add 2 huge markets, a 70k+ seat stadium, and the ability to become a bigger program in the future - we're getting another good program.

They would only be the 3rd AAU member in the league.

A&M, Missouri, Florida, and Vandy are all members of the AAU.

If Missouri departs for the SEC, the only AAU members in the Big 12 would be Texas and Iowa State.

One could 'argue' they're a better Geographical fit than A&M, which only borders 2 current SEC states. Further, College Station is a LONG way away from all the other SEC schools.

Thank goodness I live in Tennessee! :dance2:

Should be a great new league.

I love Missouri as long as they are in the East.

Who do we lose from our schedule next year to add them?

Ark or Miss St?

It is likely that we'll be going to a 9 game conference schedule. 6 in division and 3 from the west. Same format as before with a permanent opponent from the opposing division (Alabama)

Well the coaches want 8 currently; so next season will still, most likely, unfold as such

...however it's felt by many given that, eventually (a few seasons in the future), they're more than likely going to have to increase it to 9 per season

A pox on whoever said Mizzou wouldn't be a good fit. How awesome would it be to see an annual Mizzou-Arkansas game at Arrowhead?
