Missouri's SEC campaign

I got the to the part where they granted him power but no idea what that power is.

if they gave the chancellor power, then it most likely means it was to seek/deal with the school's conference affiliation

"The Board of Curators are speaking - A unanimous action was taken by the curators: The board of curators delegates the authority to Chancellor Deaton to take any and all actions to explore options for conference affiliation that are "best for the university."

Welcome to the SEC Missouri.

Nice, good move on their part.

It's clearly not done or final yet, but still - at least - this was a great first step for them to take

I guess the long delay was to decide how they are going to spend the extra money?

someone's asking about the delay

all about everything being fully considered, seemed to be their answer

Love the WV fans on there saying either "they're leaving without even knowing where they're going? HA!" or "fine explore your options! We'll already be in the SEC!"

....do they have no clue about how this process actually works?

This tweet from Clay Travis sums it up nicely.

"Missouri to Big 12: we're leaving if we can."

I think it is a combination of that and jealousy.

I would say to confirm they got the application to join and they are going to strongly consider the application.

well, do they not have to do something like was done with aTm? A "we're not looking to expand at the current moment (but wouldn't mind the application)" kind of thing?

i think they have to wait for missouri to actually leave the conference before they can take an application from them (or else, well, Ken Starr)

Also someone on one of those chats said the Tenn AD said something about WV joining?

You are probably right. They will be playing lip service to the news outlets while hammering out the details behind the scenes.

Exactly what did this board take four hours to decide today?

time spent looking into each alternative/situation/possible path to take

pretty much they did like aTm did when the gave their chancellor (forget what aTm calls Loftin) the right to explore (& decide) whether moving to another conference would be in the school's best interests

Also Deaton (the guy they gave the power) stepped down as head of the big 12 board of directors

Yeah, i think the SEC still has to be kind of distant here until Missouri actually declares its intent to leave...

...and then after Baylor tries to sue them...

The Missouri Board of Curators voted to explore Missouri's options, thus signifying their intent to divorce themselves from the Big 12.

Missouri is about to become the 14th member school of the SEC.

picked an interesting time to do this: the news of it is going to get buried under the MLB playoffs, NFL games & news, actual college football, & possibly even NBA lockout news

might work better for them though, allows them to avoid the scrutiny and over the top media pressure aTm received during this whole process
