Missouri's SEC campaign

The Missouri Board of Curators voted to explore Missouri's options, thus signifying their intent to divorce themselves from the Big 12.

Missouri is about to become the 14th member school of the SEC.

what's your opinion tux? Will this be quicker than the aTm move? Or will they need to go through the whole "we're happy with 13 at the moment" lip service process they had to go through with A&M's moves

I wonder who has more egg on their face? The Big 10+2 for not taking Missiouri last year or the Big12 commissioner giving them the finger.

No, they decided to explore their options, which we know they must have been doing for weeks.

The only way we can definitely interpret this is that they are still not happy with the Big 12 agreement that Oklahoma trumpeted.

they haven't been with that for almost...2 weeks now?

they don't make this move unless they actually want to look elsewhere. There's too much lost by Deaton stepping down as head chair of the big 12 board of directors for this just to be a power play or "who flinches"

+1
That is the same thing A&M said.

The party line is that the SEC was just fine doing its thing and out of the blue Texas A&M came along and asked to join.

If this comes to pass with Missouri, are they going to stick to the same script? Does anyone believe Missouri would announce it was "exploring its options" without already having back channel conversations with other conferences?

they didn't believe that aTm did this all of their own without speaking to the SEC before the move either (remember the "aTm president flying into Birmingham to speak with Mike Slive" report that ESPN put out at the very beginning)

the SEC did what it needed to in an attempt to try to at least avoid anything, but as you can see from the Baylor, ISU, & others suit over tortuous intent that followed, no one believed that's the way it actually went

This is Missouri telling the Big 12 that they intend to divorce them.

Love the WV fans on there saying either "they're leaving without even knowing where they're going? HA!" or "fine explore your options! We'll already be in the SEC!"

....do they have no clue about how this process actually works?

Nope, but it is a combination of that, and being painfully unintelligent. Looks like we may be spared from admitting WVU (fingers crossed).

I think WVU is like the kid that gets picked last at school. No one wants them but someone will have to take them to keep the teams even.

possibly...if that kid were a bully, and some other other adjectives and descriptors i'm not going to associate with a child

(but yes, they'll end up somewhere; just better if it's not here)

Here is the latest on Missouri and it's bid to join the SEC:

Carolina's 247sports website The Big Spur just published an update to VIP/pay members that basically states:
1. Mizzou does have the votes for acceptance if placed in the East.
2. Alabama is adamant that they not loose their rivalry game with Tennessee.
3. Alabama is also demanding that Auburn not be moved to the West, due to the fact it moves the Iron Bowl to earlier in the season.
4. Article states that with Mizzou in the East, they would get Arkansas as the cross divisional opponent. Carolina, would be paired with Texas A&M.

The BIG news from this update states that the SEC presidents/chancellors will meet this weekend with Commissioner Slive to vote on Mizzou.

Is this person supposed to be credible? Because it doesn't look like it...

The interstate connections to Columbia are superior to negotiating the two lane roads to Fayetteville. The Tigers have a strong hoops program and an above average gridiron pedigree. Arkansas and A&M to a lesser degree would become natural SEC West rivals.

Just saw on one of the SEC pregame shows that Missouri did not receive the 9 votes necessary to get into the SEC. So who's up next?
