MLB cancels ASG in Atlanta

You mean a contract between the City and MLB? Don't know, could be. But honestly such level agreements are less about money and more about handing off responsibility. Like security. Parking. Travel. Accommodations.

No idea whether there is an agreement to pay a sum of money.

It would all depend on the language contained in the contracts. I am sure such things were considered by MLB when making this decision.

I was also meaning the venue and support structure (lodging, catering, security, etc) since the rationale for moving is questionable at best.

I'm not one for lawsuits normally, but like others have said, this is going to hurt a lot of local businesses.

Seriously doubt any non contracted party has a case and most likely MLB has pretty wide latitudes in their "out" clauses.

The businesses without any contracts really don't have a basis to since they have no claim of right that the All Star game must be played there. The venue should have a contract and that would dictate the potential liability.

Oh you mean like a hotel that would argue it expected to see x occupancy and rates during the all star game but now won't? No, MLB would have no contractual or duty-based obligation to them. If it did, then any time a convention or gathering cancels, then everyone on the periphery could sue because they didn't get what they were hoping to get. There is no actionable duty to them all.

From my experiences connecting through Atlanta you cannot have a layover that’s less than an hour. There are almost always delays of some kind and 9 times out of 10 you’ll be 2 or more terminals away from your connecting gate. And, of course, if there are any novices to flying on here, always take the train in Atlanta. I walked 2 gates over out of curiosity once and it’s a very long walk. I prefer connecting through Charlotte myself. That’s what sucks about Knoxville. You have very few direct options. Actually, the best was the company I used to work for that had a corporate jet. I went all over the place in that thing and it was freaking awesome! No wait times and we had awesome pilots that treated any passengers like royalty. Some employees were actually mean to the pilots which made zero sense because they were the nicest people ever and would literally roll out the red carpet for anyone. Good times.

I used to work for a company that had a small fleet of private jets. I flew on them fairly regularly. Was nice getting from east coast to west coast so quickly and with a car waiting on you as soon as you got off. It took what would be an all day affair and turned into a 6 hour journey door to door. Could also make a day trip out of what would usually be an overnight trip.

One time, we were able to get to New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles all in the same day. Was very nice. I miss that. I now have to fly with the stinky masses these days.

That's because you don't have our corporate travel person scheduling your flights.

She thinks a half hour layover in any airport is sufficient because she'll save $0.37 on the connecting flight.

I literally had an 18 minute layover at DFW one time and had to change terminals and she wondered why I was upset.

Yep! I had one schedule me out of Tampa when the Sarasota airport was 10 minutes from my house because it was less than $20 cheaper.

They “encouraged” using corporate travel people but I either would ignore it or call with the flights I wanted already picked out.

I listened to a podcast today that had David Sampson on it. He is the former President of the Marlins. He says that the players Union had informed MLB that they wouldn't participate if it was held in GA. Just passing it along.

People like you remind me to wait a couple of days without showering before I board a plane.

I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that anymore.

I left all that BS behind when I quit my corporate job in 2010. They let me have my retirement too! I’ve only flown a handful of times since then. United can take my Lifetime Million Miler status and stick it where the sun don’t shine, and I’ll stick to my forklifts.

Charlotte is my wife's favorite, too; but I generally prefer Delta connections through ATL. Delta didn't make me at all happy years ago when I retired and didn't fly enough to keep miles up, and they zapped miles in those days, so I lost a lot. This was before getting millions of miles for a credit card - those were honest miles that were zapped. On the other hand my brother flew for Delta for twenty years or so until he hit 65 and had to retire, so if I'm travelling and don't have a schedule to meet, I'll sometimes go standby on a pass for a lot less than a regular ticket - you may get to visit a few gates and get bumped a few times before getting a connection so you weigh priorities and popularity of the destination.

Can't emphasize this enough. ATL is an easy airport to navigate, but you have to understand - it's huge. Don't be a hero and try to walk it lol.

If it's just one or maybe two concourses and I have plenty of time, I just about always walk - and not on the conveyer. After all, you are probably going to have to spend time walking or sitting, and you get plenty of sitting on the plane.

I'd like to have a dollar every time I heard "stop... do not enter, this train is leaving the station"... "the next stop is concourse C, please move to the center of the vehicle and away from the doors"

I had a flight from Tyler TX to Dallas that was delayed for connection to Atlanta. I had like a 1-1/2 hour layover in Atlana but literally OJ Simpsoned and just as I was running up to the gate door they closed it as I started yelling.. Like within 5 seconds. I was so pissed I started banging on the door. Caused a little scene.
