MLB cancels ASG in Atlanta

I'd like to have a dollar every time I heard "stop... do not enter, this train is leaving the station"... "the next stop is concourse C, please move to the center of the vehicle and away from the doors"

The part that baffles me is how to get back to the domestic concourses from an international flight on the train in ATL. Getting to the international terminal from any concourse is easy. I sure hope they get the other part figured out some day. The problem may be that you have access to checked luggage when you go through customs and immigration, and sometimes that's essential if you've bought duty free overseas and need to put what you bought in checked baggage because you can't carry it on a domestic flight - like just a bottle of rum from a more exotic location.

Charlotte is my wife's favorite, too; but I generally prefer Delta connections through ATL. Delta didn't make me at all happy years ago when I retired and didn't fly enough to keep miles up, and they zapped miles in those days, so I lost a lot. This was before getting millions of miles for a credit card - those were honest miles that were zapped. On the other hand my brother flew for Delta for twenty years or so until he hit 65 and had to retire, so if I'm travelling and don't have a schedule to meet, I'll sometimes go standby on a pass for a lot less than a regular ticket - you may get to visit a few gates and get bumped a few times before getting a connection so you weigh priorities and popularity of the destination.

What is there to like about the Charlotte airport? It’s like a maze of terminals going up and down little hills with moving sidewalks that often don’t move. There’s also very few good places to sit down and relax. I know there are all those rocking chairs but you get hit with someone’s rolling bag every half minute.

Plus the place was built in severe storm alley .. so many delays and/or iffy takeoffs

It used to be a really nice airport until they did all those expansions.

My thought, too, about Charlotte. Wives (women in general) have their own views on stuff; sometimes they are even rational.

I used to work for a company that had a small fleet of private jets. I flew on them fairly regularly. Was nice getting from east coast to west coast so quickly and with a car waiting on you as soon as you got off. It took what would be an all day affair and turned into a 6 hour journey door to door. Could also make a day trip out of what would usually be an overnight trip.

One time, we were able to get to New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles all in the same day. Was very nice. I miss that. I now have to fly with the stinky masses these days.
I used to fly private doing organ recovery/transplant. We even got pushed to the front of every holding pattern as a medical emergency. It was the closest thing to teleportation I’ll ever see in my lifetime.

The only hub that I ever had to even bother with any sort of security was Logan in Boston.

It’s the way to go if you can. We would normally fly into the smaller airports to avoid long waits on the tarmac. Teeterboro for example, instead of JFK, LGA, or Newark. Or John Wayne in OC instead of LAX.

You are correct, it feels like a totally different travel experience versus commercial. The speed factor and ability to do whatever you want while traveling makes a huge difference. Unfortunately I no longer experience that.

It would appear that everyone from President Joe Biden to failed 2018 Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams to even some in the media are now realizing that their harsh (and false) words on Georgia’s new voting law are having disastrous consequences for the very minority communities they claim to want to help.

When Democrats start using loaded words like “Jim Crow,” a term which both Biden and Abrams have repeatedly used to describe Georgia’s voting reforms, they know good and darned well that the activist left will do their thing and begin to push corporations to condemn whatever state happens to be under attack, while demanding others pull their events out of the state in question in the ultimate show of opposition to the supposed “Jim Crow law.”

I realize that, but having a secretary make travel plans is not a good idea!
You just don’t have the right admin handling it. Back when I flew all the time “Donna” was a saint to me. She didn’t book the $20 cheaper ticket with a 15 minute connection she always made sure we flew direct or had a reasonable connection. If we were going into a new area she did some digging to get us into a decent hotel. Even helped with receipts and expense reports on difficult itineraries.

If I ran the Braves organization, I’d tell the damn commissioner to meet me back in ATL at Truist Park and he can present the WS trophy to us there in front of a sold out home crowd. I suffered a long time as a native Atlantan before the 90’s. Born and raised in ATL, I first started going down to Fulton County Stadium when I was 5-6 years old in the early/mid 70’s. I got to see Hank Aaron, Dusty Baker, Phil Neikro early on. Then it was Dale Murphy, Bob Horner, Jerry Royster, Bruce Benedict…and the absolute best baseball name ever, Biff Pocaroba! And Barry Bonds will always have an * by his name.

My Dad took us to a game when A-FCS opened in 1966, man that is a great memory.
