'24 MO WR Ryan Wingo (Texas commit)

These are the headscratchers -- you have an elite kid like this who is interested in both UT and GA-- yes, GA has been on top for the past two years, but we are making a lot of noise and have clearly put ourselves into a position to where we can hang with and compete with ANYONE in the country, so we are not bottom feeding. You would assume this kid has aspirations to develop into the best he can be in his position (NFL)... UT's offense clearly optimizes his current skill sets and will showcase and allow him to develop based on our style and how much we utilize WR's--- Then you have GA... Who simply as of late, does not. Yet he is a GA lean...

Heck, it would make more sense if we were battling LSU or Bama, even Ole Miss based on their styles of offense... Guess the kid just wants to go to the current best team for exposure and roll the dice. Good luck.

He’s young and could just be caught up in the excitement of being the focus of the team on top at the moment. I’m sure they are promising that they are going to get the ball to him because he is special. I am also sure they are planting doubts about our NCAA problem. And I suspect they are outbidding us just to keep him away from us. I don’t think we are willing to get in a bidding war from what happened last year. Every player talked about us being straight up and honest with them.

Agree -- good stuff! You would think though a kid at this level hopefully has some people around him to help keep the big picture in perspective. I absolutely believe bowl cut is negative recruiting us, it's been known he makes it a point to talk trash about us and he definitely will say and do anything to keep kids away from his biggest threats.

Yeah, you know if he’s doing it publicly then he’s definitely doing a lot in private.

On VQ podcast today Matt Ray said UT is still the team to beat for Wingo. It’s just a big boy recruitment. He said UT still in a good spot for Matthews too.

That’s weird considering Fong pretty much expects him to go to Georgia.

I was blasted for saying he’s not always right.

Several of our recent kids have mentioned that he talked trash about UT and a few others and it turned them off and their parents... You would think that style/tactic would backfire more than not these days... If I was being recruited by a school and they talked negative about other schools, that would be a total turnoff... He has his recent success to buffer I guess...

I’m sure his theory is if they don’t go to GA then he’s created enough doubt that they won’t pick TN or whatever other team. He knows he will get enough top players.

Wait!! I was in full panic mode. What am I going to do now?

I don’t see how anyone thinks any kid at any position being interested in the reigning back-to-back national champs is a head scratcher.

We’ve been preaching it for a decade+: “Winning cures all”. And they are winning.

We really just need to take one WR each class. Since we play 3 at a time and we don’t rotate. That leaves you with 3 starters (1 senior, 1 junior, and 1 sophomore) and 1 reserve (freshman) in case someone gets hurt. Save those other scholarships for OL and defense.

Isn’t the plan to take enough so at least one develops into what you need?

Panic more. Recruiting isn’t for the faint of heart.

Georgia is likely telling this kid he will be the feature WR in their offense. If we lose him to Georgia whatever but I cannot see Georgia being a better fit for him if he wants to catch TDs in bunches and be drafted highly.
