UT has specific NCAA oversight obligations that are unique due to the probation they are under. This one of the items they were supposed to talk thru in today's meeting. I also don't think Gruden is upset that chat boards are generating rumors. I think he is upset that they are being picked up as news and impacting his kids at school, and his wife at home.
For some reason I doubt being a media figure is new to the Gruden household. Why would it all a sudden bother him? He is talked about every year for just about every job. UT is doing nothing that other schools/teams fans have done.
If he really wants it to stop, he could always make a statement.
More from my agent friend on Gruden, Lamonte, et al. Connect it to my previous threads to follow the long arc. I inserted some parenthesis where certain items need context. Take it or leave it, He's been spot on so far-
"They've (Lamonte's office) been in lockdown until today. I have not gotten a return call on anything since last Friday. That means it's deal time. I finally got a call EOD today (Wed. 28th). UT did not sign Minimums doc. UT pushed and indicated they agreed to material terms, but could not waive institutional control, or NCAA oversight etc. They extended a number, and a higher than previously requested number for assistants. They also requested an in person with BM and Jon for last night or today. It was postponed twice, and then cancelled. From what I gather, Jon is seriously pissed that news has been leaking, and much more pissed that he is not able to vet his options without his family being harassed about all the rumors. I think Cindy is at the end of her string. Today at 11am, he called off the meeting scheduled for today. UT asked for an alternate time or date before Friday at 5pm. They were not given one. I don't think this looks good for you guys with Jon. He may give them another meeting, but he has two business days to do it, and UT made it clear that they are going shopping starting now, not Friday. This may be good in the long run as I think the deal would've taken longer than most, and could've really hurt given what you guys have been through. Among my other peers, the buzz is that Golden is still trying to exit the U on the ethics clause. He and Fedora are the names that are everyone's best guess though my friends close to Golden aren't going into nervous silence. So they aren't doing a deal (yet). The only other news is kind of obvious, but Jimmy's people say Fisher. Hart is tighter with Fisher than he is with Smart, or anyone else. They are good friends. No one is saying Strong is the guy. So if you want me to handicap, Gruden 10 to 1, Golden 5 to 1, Fisher 3 to 1, Fedora 2 to 1. if I had to root for an outcome, I'd root for Fedora then Golden."
To reiterate from an earlier post, He is high on Golden and thinks he is a rising star. His endorsement of Fedora is something I have not heard before, but maybe because he didn't think he was in the race until today. Sad to hear that Gruden is off, for now.
More. Just got this.
"Coatcheck says Cindy was bothered outside school drop-off today by reporters. This sent Jon thru the roof. He was also furious that he was asked the UT question on M&M's radio show right after this as the school deal just went down, and M&M did not tell him the question was coming. An hour later, Bob called the meeting with Hart off. Oddly, UT is Cindy's choice among San Diego, Philly, and Knoxville. She has asked him to take it seriously. Bobby hates the idea of Jon hearing from boosters, former players etc. and wants a single sit-down with Hart to rule it in, or out. No one knows if it is back on, but UT has given a hard deadline of 5pm Friday for the pow-wow. Hart is an old school guy. If there is no meeting by 5 on Friday, its over. On a less interesting front, he sees Golden tomorrow, and Fedora on Friday morning."
Basilio's intern called my friend this A.M. referencing this post. They did some research, and tracked him down. He did not comment. Note how much TB lifted from this thread given that my friend did not agree to talk to him. I think my source is about to shut down...

I never said that. My friend said that Jon's Minimum requirements make it difficult for a university to pursue. This is proving to be true. I am sorry if your tales of Gruden flying around with Manning in Ole Hasslum's flyin Esacalade are proving to be untrue. We may get Gruden. If so, it will occur because the AD was able to negotiate through Gruden's steep needs, not because your buddy over at Rocky Top Market told you that them danged ole millionaires dun give Gruden a football and promised his wife she could start her career cheerleadin again. Woo Boy, that danged ole Gruden dun bought him the Sunsphere to live in.
