I picked 8 n 4 because if we only win 4 then cbj is dead in the water as our coach..
I still don't understand the fascination with this "accomplishment". Do you brag about it as if losing "only" 7 games is acceptable?
It seems like there is this constant need to find a random, oddly-specific accomplishment when one's team is losing.
Right now, for some UT fans, it's the "never lost 8 games" thing. A couple of years ago, there were a bunch of posters bragging about how UT had won more games than any other team since 1926 or '28 or something. But they dropped that accomplishment once UT got passed by OU and Bama.
These things are pointed to as sources of pride despite not being terribly significant in the big scheme of things.
I'm going in assuming that Tennessee absolutely beats USU, ASU, Chatt, UK, and Vandy. So 5-7 would be the minimum for my mind.
I answered 4-8, because I think it is more likely that Tennessee slips up against just one of USU, ASU, or Vandy than it is that Tennessee beats three out of Mizzou, USCe, UGA, UF, and Ole Miss.

CBJ would not be dead in the water. The way he's handled it so far indicates he's going to be around a while. 4-8 would be bad, but not enough to fire coach next year. Jones is a winner and it's a only matter of time till he has UT challenging for SEC titles in my opinion. I'd hate a 4-8 season, but I could easily let that go with the hope 2015 and beyond will bring with CBJ.
Bottom line to me is that it is likely we'll overachieve with this coach versus underachieving.

When you are one of only 2 teams that can "brag" about something - you do it.

Well, to be honest, this is an incredible accomplishment. Especially playing in the sec...not to mention the slump we've been in. And no, losing 7 games is not acceptable - I never said it was. But losing 8 is worse. This accomplishment is part of TN history. And if you don't care about the history, then what's the points? Wins, loses, TDs, yards, national championships, etc...all stats that are part of TN's history. When you are one of only 2 teams that can "brag" about something - you do it.
My wife's side of the family are all Ohio State fans. We've talked football for almost a decade now. They have never once brought up the fact that tOSU has never lost 8 games in a season. I'm not sure they're even aware of it.
So again, I think this is mostly the kind of oddly-specific accomplishment that one brings up when there isn't much else to be psyched about.
There is very little difference in losing 7 or 8 games. They both suck!
Would you rather have Bama's results in this century or UT's? Bama has an 8 and 9 loss season so far but they have 3 national titles and 2 SEC titles. Meanwhile, UT doesn't have an 8 loss season...and that's about it.
