Picking just purely based on odds, I'd have to go with 4-8 over 8-4. With that being said I would also add that the odds for 4-8 is very unlikely. The better question might be 5-7 or 7-5.

I picked 8 n 4 because if we only win 4 then cbj is dead in the water as our coach..

CBJ would not be dead in the water. The way he's handled it so far indicates he's going to be around a while. 4-8 would be bad, but not enough to fire coach next year. Jones is a winner and it's a only matter of time till he has UT challenging for SEC titles in my opinion. I'd hate a 4-8 season, but I could easily let that go with the hope 2015 and beyond will bring with CBJ.
Bottom line to me is that it is likely we'll overachieve with this coach versus underachieving.

4-8? TN and Ohio St - the only 2 teams to never lose 8 games. I'd hate to lose that stat.

I still don't understand the fascination with this "accomplishment". Do you brag about it as if losing "only" 7 games is acceptable?

It seems like there is this constant need to find a random, oddly-specific accomplishment when one's team is losing.

Right now, for some UT fans, it's the "never lost 8 games" thing. A couple of years ago, there were a bunch of posters bragging about how UT had won more games than any other team since 1926 or '28 or something. But they dropped that accomplishment once UT got passed by OU and Bama.

These things are pointed to as sources of pride despite not being terribly significant in the big scheme of things.

I agree with you. UT fans are grasping at anything right now. I'm 41 and have followed the Vols my entire life and I had never heard of this until the last couple of years when UT started losing 7 games.

I'm going in assuming that Tennessee absolutely beats USU, ASU, Chatt, UK, and Vandy. So 5-7 would be the minimum for my mind.

I answered 4-8, because I think it is more likely that Tennessee slips up against just one of USU, ASU, or Vandy than it is that Tennessee beats three out of Mizzou, USCe, UGA, UF, and Ole Miss.

You lost me at the 4th letter in your name.....

when you are faced with not having a future, all you have to look at is the past.

If Will Muschamp gets to go 4-8 at Florida in year 3 and survive, then CBJ can survive 4-8 in year two with much less access to talent.

Well, to be honest, this is an incredible accomplishment. Especially playing in the sec...not to mention the slump we've been in. And no, losing 7 games is not acceptable - I never said it was. But losing 8 is worse. This accomplishment is part of TN history. And if you don't care about the history, then what's the points? Wins, loses, TDs, yards, national championships, etc...all stats that are part of TN's history. When you are one of only 2 teams that can "brag" about something - you do it.

My wife's side of the family are all Ohio State fans. We've talked football for almost a decade now. They have never once brought up the fact that tOSU has never lost 8 games in a season. I'm not sure they're even aware of it.

So again, I think this is mostly the kind of oddly-specific accomplishment that one brings up when there isn't much else to be psyched about.

If Derek Drooley can almost beat LSU and last years team beat SC and almost UGA? we should go 7-5

We beat ourselves more so than Florida beating us last season.. so in Neyland with more continuity, more skill, and an (hopefully) ironed out QB situation.....it should be a better game where FLa will have to earn it.

There you are.

I guess I would go with 4-8 if I'm being realistic. I cannot see us realistically winning 8 games this year, I would love it if we did but I can't see it. I can't see us losing 8 if we're healthy either though.

To be fair, we could also lose to UK with a WR at starting qb, and be pushed to the brink vs several different sun belt teams.

There is very little difference in losing 7 or 8 games. They both suck!

Would you rather have Bama's results in this century or UT's? Bama has an 8 and 9 loss season so far but they have 3 national titles and 2 SEC titles. Meanwhile, UT doesn't have an 8 loss season...and that's about it.

I had never heard of this until about 2 years ago.

I know you are trying to prove a point, but what kind of question is that? I made a simple statement about one particular UT stat, and you flip out.

He's got three years. If he doesn't win seven and have a winning season he's gone! Regardless of the recruiting and all the Butch stuff. Dooley only got two years (not counting year zero).
