off topic but the most underappreciated Vol of all has to be one Roland James.

Am I taking crazy pills? I think people are misunderstanding that being more under appreciated is not the same as being the better football player. Clausen was the better, but he wasn't under appreciated. He was a very good QB, and he was treated like it by the fans and the media.

Foster was a very good running back at UT (2nd all time rusher), yet he is treated like he singlehandedly destroyed our football program. The more under appreciated player with respect to their accomplishments is easily Foster.

Foster's accomplishments were kind of diminished by his lack of ball security inside the 20s. He could be a beast at times but when we got in scoring position the opponent knew one hard hit and he would cough the ball up.

His fumbles don't diminish shiz. His effort was a net positive for the team by a large magnitude. Besides, if you excluded running backs from being considered good based on a streak of fumbles in their college career, the list of greats would be considerably smaller than it currently is. What about the Florida game where Clausen fumbled 3 times in a row on his own goal line? If he had lost those fumbles, would we be able to say that Clausen wasn't good? The only difference between those and Foster's was that we were fortunate enough to recover them. Point being: even good players fumble from time to time. Another point: only good players reach top 2 all time at their position. Get off the blind hate bandwagon. Both players were good. One was appreciated, and the other was shat on at every turn. If you think Clausen was more under appreciated, you didn't understand the question.

Looking at the voting Foster is the most underappreciated. Clausen is one of the more over appreciated when one looks at the surrounding talent.

The question was "which one is under appreciated". With the answers being given it is apparent that Casey is appreciated and rightly so because he was a winner. Therefore with that being said, it has to be Foster because as you can see most people on here still don't appreciate what he did while he was here because of his fumbling problems.

He will forever be in my mind the Guy who cost us the Penn St game with his fumble that was right on cue.

What about the rest of the team that played like crap that game? Foster was the only reason we were in that game.

Not a bad topic but I wouldn't limit it to the Ice Man and Taco....Of those two, it is the guy who was a winner not the guy that cost us the Penn State Outback Bowl or the '08 UCLA game...Most underappreciated players of recent memory = Billy Ratliff, Shawn Bryson, Corey Terry, Tori Noel, Derrick Tinsley and Fred White.

You must not remember the fumbled snaps against FL in 02. Or the backwards pass vs Bama that same year. Or the fumbled hand off on the goal line vs UGA before half time?
Casey had his share of turnovers that swung momentum the other way too.

To the OP I would say Clausen. Was the most under appreciated while playing and Foster the most post playing.

Casey Clausens last 2 bowl games were less than stellar

He actually played pretty good vs Clemson. I believe he broke a bowl game passing record for UT. The defense in that game killed themselves with late hits and roughing the passer penalties.

There was 10min left in the 4th Q when Foster fumbled. Tell me why the loss is solely on him?

My pick was Clausen, but that's not a knock on Foster. Remember, one his fumbles (against UF I think) came when Ainge handed off to Arian with the wrong hand. I seem to remember Ainge's thumb being messed up somehow, and for all we know the pain wasn't registering at that time because of all the THC in his system.

Bingo! I remember after the first fumble saying please Fulmer don't put him back in the game!

Yeah, and the guy picked it up and ran 89 yards for a game changing td...done. I was sitting right in that endzone...rain and cold weather sucked! To the other poster..I was there in the Swamp when Foster fumbled the ball at the 10 yrd line...total backbreaker! Hell, I was at the Rose Bowl for the one in 2008 and the one in Neyland in 2005 at the 1 yrd line...think I was at every choke job lol
