More Wealth Distribution Nonsense

I am guessing you are still undecided, right?

I am leaning to Obama for two reasons. First, I think we need to end the gridlock in Washington and given the nature of the Congress maybe we are better to have the President also be a Democrat. Second, I have been watching Palin and think she is really not prepared for the job, should it be necessary, and given McCain's age and health it might well be.

the only solution is the fair tax. nobody should be taxed on what they earn, only on what they spend.

that way, Warren Buffet won't be able to hide behind his 100k/year salary as a tax dodge.
I agree with this. It seems the most fair way to me as well.

That's a great reason to vote for Obama.

I am slobbering over Obama for two reasons. First, I like how he really never says anything but looks really hip and cool doing it. Second, I have been watching Palin and think she is really hot and much more prepared for the job than Obama but I detest anyone with common sense.

ok.

My point was that McCain's supporters blasting Obama for "wealth redistribution" is intellectually bankrupt because no matter who tinkers with the tax system or how they are by definition redistributing wealth.

What the McCain camp is really arguing -- and doesn't want to quite put it this way -- is that McCain favors leaving in place tax cuts for the wealthy whereas Obama proposes to roll back the cuts and give a tax cut to the middle class.

Not so fast. Obama's plan specifically calls for direct payments to some individuals coming from other individuals. All those people that currently pay zero income tax will be getting cash from the government at the expense of "those who can afford it". This is clearly direct redistribution.

Having a progressive tax system is indirect wealth redistribution when tax payments go towards public spending that has differential benefits.

There is a distinct difference.

I'm guessing yes. And I'm guessing LawGator's not the only one who thinks that way.

Saying you're not going to vote for McCain because his runningmate would not be prepared to be the POTUS is an absolute cop out, and a tad bit ironic...don't ya think...

Is Palin a socialist for making big oil share the wealth with the citizens of Alaska? Was McCain a socialist in 2000 when he disagreed with the Bush tax cuts?

you think obama is prepared for the job?

Yes, I think he has the intellectual horsepower to do the job. Could you find more experienced? Sure. But he is smart enough to figure out the issues and ask the right questions.

Palin is simply not smart enough and no amount of time is going to fix that. I am sick and tired of having a dummy for president.

I like McCain, too, think he's very intelligent and would make a fine president. If he wins, I won't be unhappy, unless he croaks, in which case I think we are screwed in a huge way.

Actually, that is a very good reason not to vote for McCain. Many others feel this same way, whether you agree or not.

considering palin's quick rise i very much doubt she is stupid. a wackjob maybe, but not stupid. and the chances of mccain croaking in office have to be less than 10% at least. I'm willing to take a 10% chance a wackjob is president than a 100% chance a wackjob socialist is president.

What makes you so confident Obama is all that intelligent? Even if he is, what makes you think that makes him capable of running the United States. I know several people I'm quite certain have higher IQs than Obama, but I don't think any of them could handle such a task.
