Michigan State is, was, and ALWAYS will be the "other" school in the state of Michigan, no matter how many Big 10 titles they've won since 1990...Arkansas has no in state competition whatsoever, and Petrino, no matter what you think of him, proved you can win in the modern, post Saban SEC at Arkansas at an extremely high level.
Having another instate school was not part of the equation and considering Arkansas never played in Atlanta under Petrino further proves my point; Minnesota has no instate competition and much better past successes. Is it a great job as well based off of your criteria? No, it isn’t and it’s due to some of the same issues. Arkansas simply cannot compete with Alabama, LSU, and Auburn even at it’s heights.
