Morris out at Arkansas

The one thing that could help their situation is if/when kids start receiving money legally....Jerry Jones will be writing the checks to get Arkansas good talent.....and those pockets are pretty deep!
5 billion net worth as of last summer. That gets bumped up $100 mil every time his Blue Star company finishes up a deal.

I would make sure to take someone with big ties to Texas. Gary Patterson might be a good fit.

Despite the money that Arkansas undoubtedly has, that wouldn't be like them to throw a ton of it at a coach. Patterson makes almost $5m/year. They were paying Morris $3.5/year. In order to get Patterson to leave TCU, Arkansas would have to offer him way more than he's making now. Probably a figure well over $6m/year. TCU would almost certainly give him a nice raise to retain him.

I was thinking about more from the Arkansas side than Patterson's.

They were able to hire away Bielema. But he was unhappy. Just need to find someone like that.

Arkansas will make a good hire this time around. They have a pissed of fan base (and pissed of boosters as well)

If they want Saban, they can afford him.

Bielema commanded an average SEC salary when he was there. Arkansas has never gone out on a limb and made some expensive, big splash hire. Look at what Nutt, Petrino, Bielema, Morris, etc. jobs were before they arrived at Arkansas. Bielema had the best resume but he didn't command an top-end salary like Patterson would.

We offered Gus $7 million the last time. Glad that didn’t work out though.

You nailed it. Arkansas as far back as I can recall always had to recruit Texas heavily. They produce maybe 4 or 5 D1 talent guys in state every season, usually it's RBs out of Pine Bluff or Little Rock.

It definitely doesn’t help that Arkansas hasn’t produced nearly as many impactful football players recently. There have never been a whole lot but Nutt and Petrino’s best teams had a ton of difference makers from in state that won Mackey Awards, Doak Walker, Rimington, best return man, etc. There hasn’t been a McFadden or Matt Jones in a while...they are all playing basketball now. We could have a top 10 basketball class for 2020 with all in-state guys.

Lot's of programs could "afford" Saban but he isn't leaving and they aren't hiring Stoops, Meyer, or Carrol. The SEC West is an absolute blood bath with now LSU and Alabama. Firing coaches after just two seasons isn't going to do them any favors with trying to hire a replacement no matter what their fans or boosters think. A coach that has a family is going to have a very difficult time being convinced that it's in the best interest of his family to move them to Arkansas for possibly less than two seasons at a program that has had very little success in its history especially the last 30 years or so. There is a huge difference between FSU and Arkansas when it comes to built in advantages and challenges

Morris never even moved his family here and flew every Friday night to see his son play. One of the things that got on Arkansas fans' nerves.

Morris is tied for the 3rd worst winning percentage in SEC history. If the new coach thinks he's going to do that bad then maybe we don't want him in the first place.

Georgia blows out Auburn and then they lose the Iron Bowl I can see Malzahn working something out to leave and head to Arkansas.

I'm not sure that having a pissed off fan base will help them any more than it's helped us over the past few years.

Two seasons or 5 seasons they get paid millions so why wouldn't a guy move his family?

why? you would pretty much by default be in a better position than you are now.

if as everyone says you have the money, why not use it on a proven SEC coach?

You live in a dream world where stability is unimportant to a prospective coach, look no further than Tennessee a program with more history and a bigger name.

My thing is if he’s underachieving with Auburn talent then I’m not sure how he would work here. Would just divide the fanbase even more because most can’t stand him. Plus his offense is basically the same as Morris and idk why we would fire a Malzahn protege just to hire the guy himself.

At some point you have to show even modest improvement though. When you’re losing to high school teams and your players hate playing for you it’s clear it’s not going to get much better. Most coaches would get more than 2 years but he reached unheard of levels of incompetence.

I understand your plight but he was a decently sought after coach who was fired after less than two seasons, perception is reality when it comes to recruiting and hiring a new coach
