Yeah...Bonds. I guess I have a grudge against him since he cheated to break Aaron's record. I also think he was below average in the OF for a long time. Of course, so were Ruth and Williams. I think he is a top 15 player even w/o steroids though. If we forget steroids then he has to be there. Sammy Sosa even moves up close to the top 10-15 under that criteria though. He would have had around 200 career homers with a 265 average or so w/o the juice.

To me the throw should be celebrated a lot more than the actual catch. The throw was a hell of a throw, that's for sure.

Looked like a rainbow. Needed to hit the cutoff man. He was not in deep center in the Polo Grounds either as he claims in his interviews (he says 580 feet in the youtube interview). Deep center is over 470 feet away, Mays was about 420-440 (depending upon whether you beleive the numbers posted at the Polo Grounds or not). Now that's deep, but do we really expect someone to score from second on that? It could happen but would take some bad defense. The catch was great but is definitely overrated as far as all time great baseball plays. Not nearly as bad as Jeter's flip though.

Jeter's flip gets overdone because he is Jeter... but if you just take it as what it is and not the annoyance of it being overdone... its a pretty remarkable play.

I have never seen clear video evidence that the throw was off line and the flip was necessary. It certainly didn't speed up the ball. .

You tell me why he is overrated. And if no hitters are nothing then why are they so few and far between? And it's not like the guy had 1 or 2 or even 3! The guy had 7!!! The next closest all time is 3! And he has the most 1 hit and 2 hit games of all time.

As far as underrated give me Hank Greenberg, Arky Vaughan, and Al Kaline. And Edgar Martinez.
