Most underrated Vol of the modern era?

#31 that played fullback for the Falcons in the Bartkowski years? If that's him, I had no idea he was from UT. A little before my time. Great player though!

Not sure if it's out there yet, but Big John Henderson was a monster. Freakishly huge dude.

I think your thinking of Gerald Riggs? He did not go to UT, but, his son Gerald Riggs Jr. did.

I do remember a William Howard that played for the VOLS in the mid 80's, I believe he was from Ohio, could be wrong, but he was a nice player.

SIAP but I believe you are referring to Don Smith (think that was his name) from MSU. He was a QB and was gone for a TD when McDaniel ran him down and may have caused a fumble (fuzzy memories)

You were right on the MSU part and even the fumble part but, after poking around some (man the internet is cool if you know how to use it) it turns out to have been Hank Phillips. Kudos for even remembering Don Smith though. :good!:

No, I believe that #31 for the Falcons was Gerald Riggs. His son, Gerald Riggs Jr, was a Vol. Also, you may be thinking of William Andrews, another 80's rb for the Falcons. William Howard wore the #43 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and #35 for the Vols.

William Andrews! That's it! Thanks that was bugging me.

we called him William "747" Howard because he ran around the endzone with his arms out like an airplane after a score.

When we did a full house backfield with him it was almost always a short yardage TD or first down.
