Motorcycle Thread! Post Pics, Have Discussion

The one I'm looking at has the same engine (spec wise), is the same price (100 more) and has a 30.3 inch seat height and looks much better. More comfortable too.

I wouldn't want that rear tire on a bike for 90% use on the street.

I've never liked those low front fenders on DP bikes. Yamaha used to do that until about 1974. It does look right on that one though.

This bike has been around in one form or another since the 70s. The Yamaha TW200 is pretty much the same set up.

People love them for road riding as long as you aren't thinking freeway.

The big tire is great for crappy city streets.

Here's the Yammy version

Get a scooter and call it a day. It seems to fit your needs better

Nothing wrong with a scooter. Thought about it but there are plenty of small bikes that fit the need better.

actually, small displacement motorcycles are the fastest growing segment in the industry.

I like the Triumph best by far... as long as driving on dirt trails or the beech aren't regular drives. Of course it's what, twice the cost of the Japanese bikes?

Are two-strokes still street legal here? It's always funny seeing those guys in places like Pakastan or Thailand with their tiny displacement 2-stroke bikes... often carrying a goat or shoulder mounted rocket launcher or something.

Do they still make Norton's? Seems like they might have been the same company as Triumphs. Husqvarna has changed ownership once or twice recently... might be owned by KTM now. I'm going to check Wikipedia.

Lolls like KTM (Austria) bought Husqvarna (Sweden) from BMW (Germany) a few years ago.

I always liked Bultaco except most of the controls seemed to be flippy flopped. Cool trials bikes. Used to read about Montessa, Penton, Hodaka, and Can-Am back in the day.

When I rode as a kid a buddy had a Hodaka. Combat Wombat I believe.

I was always partial to the Honda Elsinore MT series.

The Suzuki RM-125 changed everything. 1975 debut I think. 1973 Kawasaki Z-1 900s and 1969 Honda CB-750s too. Before all of those the small Honda... 160 Hawk or something. MTs were pretty much street legal CRs. Yamaha came out with the Mono-Shock in, I think 1977. When it was moved forward a few years later it too was a game changer. The original RM-125 had 2 rear shocks but they innovated by moving the mount on the swing arm forward from near the rear axle a few inches closer to the swing arm pivot point.

Had some buddy's that rode RMs. I grew up in Timbercrest (off Lonas Rd) and the area along Weisgarber and Middlebrook Pike was undeveloped/underdeveloped. We had all sorts of trails, hill climbs, hare scrambles, etc. back there.

Walker Springs was pure awesomeness before the water slide and subsequently Court South and Walmart destroyed all of it. I wish I had pics. That hill climb about where Court South/Pilot now sits was outstanding.

Salad days for sure. I delivered the Sentinel on my 1st 2 bikes. Summers were great. Go to the neighborhood pool all day, leave for an hour to deliver the paper then come back. There was a little trail down to a store on Middlebrook. I always had cash due to the paper route ($50/week for 14 yo in the 70s was doing pretty good). Pick up snacks head back to the pool.

What a life.

Road the new Street Twin as soon as it hit Knoxville.
What a fun bike, light as a feather with plenty of torque.
Lovely exhaust note with the new 270 crank.

I'm afraid to ride the new 120's as I would probably end up with yet another bike in the garage.

The T100 is back for 2017 with the same 900 mill from the Street Twin. I imagine we'll see the 900 in a new Scrambler as well.

Though, they're nothing like the bikes of old...

OK, I take that back. Some style points do hearken back...

Checking out the specs of the latest Commando -
Engine Type: In-house developed parallel twin with dry sump lubrication. M'kay...
Valve Actuation: Push rod, hydraulic lifter, 2 valves per cylinder. M'kay...
Cooling System: Air / Oil. M'kay...
Displacement: 961 cc Whoa, Nellie!
Ignition: Crank fired electronic fuel injection and multiple 2 way catalytic converters. Euro 3 compliant. Not at all like before
