Wouldn't have thought that...interesting.

Even though it wasn't a good defense, it still had a ton of talent. Pruitt has only coached places where the talent is overflowing, and he almost always took over a D that was great the previous year.

OP said "great coordinators". I dont consider Pruitt a great coordinator. He was average at Ga. FSU won with Winston, not a great defense and Clemson didnt have problems lighting his a$$ up at Alabama....Bama won their NCs for the most part outscoring people after Kirby left.

Pruitt is a POS but come on.

Walt Harris did ok at Pitt, Stanford not so much. Cutcliffe had a good run at Ole Miss and Duke, although the last few years in Durham were a little rough.

Gilliam was the DC at TSU from 1963-1983 under the legend Big John Merritt. His defence won 7 Black National Championships.......
Gilliam was a HC at Kentucky St and at TSU. His record was 23-36-2

As a DC at TSU...............they were 172-33-7...............A winning percentage of 81%


He was a dear friend of mine when I coached at TSU. He even said that he was a DC 1st and didn't really enjoy being a HC. He's the George Washington on Mt. Rushmore.
