And also the fat, lazy, donut eatin' tub of lard, "workin' like heck", "perfect storm", excuse makin', booster suck-up, two bit politician, most responsible for our fall into the current abyss.

:finger3:

And he did way more for Tennessee then he did to hurt Tennessee. TRUTH! Whether you like it or not. :finger3:

He quit on us - that's what he did. If you look at my other Mt. Rushmore thread, I put 1990s Fulmer on it, the decade when he actually gave a crap. If he kept that fire in his belly we would never have been stuck with clowns like Precious and Monte, Jr.

There is no reason to disrespect the coach. Phil...really? If you or I posted his record and accomplishments, but not his name on this board, most everyone here would want to hire him.

Fulmer is an extremely wealthy man because of UT, so there's no reason to feel sorry for him. He's not a villain so much as a huge letdown to the University.

I think his work ethic went way down after the title. You just don't let yourself go like that and it not affect your job. You are supposed to lead by example, and his fat-slob mentality had a carry over effect to the entire program.

152-52, NC, 1 year removed from playing in the SECG. Is that the definition of a "fat slob mentality" and a let down to the university?

Hey I'm just saying I don't think he deserves to be on the Mt Rushmore of UT villains like some people have suggested.

And Butch is out to change the mentality that lingers still from CPF's time. The players are going to work hard, sprint down the field at the end of the 3rd quarter, outwork the other teams, basically.

Butch just looks more like a coach, like he wouldn't have chest pains if he had to run hard for 100 yards.

So why was he spurned by Kansas, Minnesota, Clemson, Miss. State, Louisville, and Arkansas? Please answer that one - can't wait to see your answer.

Anyone that puts Fulmer on there is an idiot. No further discussion needed.

Lets actually focus on OPPONENTS, be they coaches or players.

David Palmer- The sickest I had ever been in my life at that point. The two pointer that everyone saw coming, except UT coaches.

Tim Tebow- Couldn't beat him. That gets him on my list.

Hobnail Boot- All of them. Ever. I hate that those words even exist. Not really an opponent, but oh well.

Steve Spurrier- I wanted UT to beat him every damn time they played. I wish he would have coached at UT. The kind of attitude and charisma that a UT coach should have.

I've heard over the years that Tennessee fans are the most crazy, self absorbed fans in the country.

I've had many people tell me that in 1998, u wouldn't believe how UT fans acted. I've been told imagine how Alabama fans act now, and x10. (I was 11 in 1998)

After joining this VN I believe it.

It is not an excuse. VN posters all wanted young, brash, etc. Well you got it.

The game has passed him by. Well, how are things working with the young, modern pretty boys???

Your argument is old. Fulmer let the game pass him by. Nothing to do with age.

Losing to Bama, GA, Fla, SC, LSU on a regular basis gets you fired.

Ask Dooley. He isn't old.

They both sucked at the time of firing. Get over yourself, Phil.

My argument is valid. Get over youself, Johnny.

True young and brash does have it's perks, mostly the appeal to recruits, but fulmer didn't lose his job because he wasn't young and brash. He lost it because he lost. He was the beneficiary of some amazing timing, among other things. Bama, Uga, sc, and uf all went through a lot of turmoil and multiple coaches over the course of his tenure. And the sec of then wasn't nearly as competitive as the sec of today. Hell auburn went undefeated and got left out not too many years ago. That would never happen in this era. Im very appreciative of fulmer but we really slipped under his watch. Part of our current situation should be attributed to him having been allowed to stay on too long.
