'26 MS WR Tristen Keys (lsu commit)

5 star busts aren’t uncommon. Top 3-5 players being non factors is extremely uncommon though. Also I’m not necessarily talking solely about how they turn out as much as I am the fact that Pope should be able to cherry pick an in state player isn’t even a consensus 4 star. He’s yet to show he can win a recruiting battle for a player that is at the top of everyone else’s board though, and we can’t really point to Mike Matthews to argue that considering not every team wanted him as a WR and Clemson was our main competition for him as a WR and they ended up landing 2 guys that were better
Too early to say if there better than Matthews or not. One year removed where he was injured at times as well. Time will tell. We shall see how it goes this year. Folks snap to judgement after 1 true freshman season, I am not going to do that. GBO

BS.

Mike Matthews and Travis Smith were wanted by just about everybody.

Think his point was those programs missing out on those guys wasn't really a blow, while it would be a total gut-punch to a Tennessee class
It looked to me like his point was that Pope hasn't won a recruiting battle with a player near the top of other team's recruiting board.
Matthews and Smith were at or near the top of a lot of teams WR board.
Pope loses his share, maybe more than his share, but he wins some too.

Guys it's not complicated. He's from LSU country. LSU has put WRs in the league's 1st two rounds just about every year for 20 years. Let it go. If we flip him, great and awesome.

The board does this every year. We keep a guy's thread who commits elsewhere going for a year. There's always 1.

Sometimes a kid just likes another program.

But TK really likes Tennessee, so we hear.

We missed on Tate, Wingo, Williams.

This kid is dynamic. The day of 'we wont overpay' ends with this one. This is one you overpay.
It’s not gonna happen. I think the only recruits we have overpaid for is maybe David Sanders and Nico.

It is a different coaching staff, but have you seen the NFL rosters? The high quality and quantity in both areas (wr and db) that LSU has produced over the last 15 years is unmatched.....
So I guess you think it's in the water since it isn't the current coaches?

Depends what they think of Merklinger. If they feel they need a new QB, that QB may cost more than Iamaleava (can’t believe I learned that name for one season of games)
I just don’t see who they could go after at QB. There aren’t many proven guys out of conference. Do we go all out on Klubnik for a year? I only saw SMU in the playoff. So I don’t know what Jennings is like. Does Tayven Jackson think he has a better chance at beating out Merk than he did Nico, and is Heupel and Halzle still confident enough in his ability to go that route? Is the third time a charm for Salter? Aidan Chiles from Michigan State? Could Pavia be considered a grad transfer and be eligible? There’s basically those guys Leavett or a QB from a school that runs an offense similar to ours like TCU, Baylor, or UCF. There’s really not a lot of options right now. I’d rather see us lock down a game breaker at receiver for when Faizon gets here and ride with what we have and maybe bring Moore back in case Merk just completely falls off the rails. Then go get a portal QB in 26 if they have to. Everyone else is probably worse than Nico was and that wasn’t very good to begin with last year

Klubnik isn’t leaving Clemson.

Tayven Jackson hasn’t proven he can play at this level.

Did you just pick like the 4-5 QBs in all of college football you’ve heard of?

Andy Staples indicated yesterday on his podcast that he foresees a prominent QB bolting after spring practice and thinks UT would be in on that. Don’t know if that’s just conjecture

There just aren’t many other guys that would be a definite upgrade over Merk with experience in Heupel’s system. Playing QB in the SEC after only going through fall camp is tough
