I was going to suggest Sam Leavitt, but even he struggled against SEC defenses. 2 games (MSU and Texas). less than 300 yards combined. 0 TDs. 50% completion percentage. There just aren’t many other guys that would be a definite upgrade over Merk with experience in Heupel’s system. Playing QB in the SEC after only going through fall camp is tough
Gonna be hard to get a high character big talent kid to leave his team right now. We probably will need to look to a school where the gap is big enough that it’s an opportunity they can’t pass up. Then it’s is the talent enough. Probably not too many great options. I’d think ksu, Illinois, gt QBs are the hopefuls but more likely someone not at the top of the hot board list. We’ll see.Andy Staples indicated yesterday on his podcast that he foresees a prominent QB bolting after spring practice and thinks UT would be in on that. Don’t know if that’s just conjecture
Don’t get me wrong, I think we need another QB if we want to win more than 6-8 games this year. I just don’t know how realistic Johnson, Robertson (who would be the best fits but probably aren’t leaving) or even Leavitt, King, Altmyer, or Hoover would be (better than what we have but don’t know if they’d fit) I’m not sure about Daniels and I think Jennings is too small. Rizk from UCF or someone that isn’t on the radar is probably the guy we end up gettingFew seem to grasp this.
Klubnik is terrible imo.Klubnik isn’t leaving Clemson.
Tayven Jackson hasn’t proven he can play at this level.
Did you just pick like the 4-5 QBs in all of college football you’ve heard of?
Klubnik would probably play for Clemson for free. I would be extremely suprised if he were to transfer especially in this window. I think even if you offered him millions more he would still stay at Clemson. You may get one of Clemsons good young WR’s if you put up some big $ but even that would be hard.I just don’t see who they could go after at QB. There aren’t many proven guys out of conference. Do we go all out on Klubnik for a year? I only saw SMU in the playoff. So I don’t know what Jennings is like. Does Tayven Jackson think he has a better chance at beating out Merk than he did Nico, and is Heupel and Halzle still confident enough in his ability to go that route? Is the third time a charm for Salter? Aidan Chiles from Michigan State? Could Pavia be considered a grad transfer and be eligible? There’s basically those guys Leavett or a QB from a school that runs an offense similar to ours like TCU, Baylor, or UCF. There’s really not a lot of options right now. I’d rather see us lock down a game breaker at receiver for when Faizon gets here and ride with what we have and maybe bring Moore back in case Merk just completely falls off the rails. Then go get a portal QB in 26 if they have to. Everyone else is probably worse than Nico was and that wasn’t very good to begin with last year
