'26 MS WR Tristen Keys

From Wiltfong today

Tristen Keys – 5-star receiver
This one is tight. Alabama, Miami and Tennessee are three very well positioned.
I’d give the edge to the Vols right now but not sleeping on the other two. An early decision wouldn’t surprise me.
Texas A&M and Auburn are a couple others Keys is high on.
The Vols currently have On3’s No. 5 ranked class headlined by quarterback Faizon Brandon who is the No. 2 signal-caller in the land and No. 7 prospect overall.
Keys is the No. 2 receiver and No. 6 player in the On3 Industry Rankings.
so to all the people freaking out about TAMU taking our place, does this make you feel better?

If we land Tristen Keys, I will stop bitching about WR recruiting, for one calendar year.

*does not include OL or DB recruiting
* excludes transfer porthole
* retains right to fahr Kelsey Pope at moments notice

Just hope we keep this momentum and get him. I mean you are kinda acting like that article means we have some commanding lead. We don’t. It’s gonna be a dog fight with an elite player like this.

and then we find replacements.

go back to 2024, we were in on a TON of the top DL talent. Had a whole list of high 4s and 5s. Everyone thought we were getting all of them. As more and more of the list didn't go to UT, everyone panics and assumes we aren't getting anyone. the class will be trash, won't find any good DL. so on and so forth, typical end of the world stuff. End up with the #1 DE on 247, Ross.

Speaking of WRs, Matthews and Staley were both Top 100 on all services. Smith was ranked highly in 2025. 2026 we already have one WR in the Top 100 overall in King.

you guys always act like we brought in nothing but a bunch of three stars because we didn't get every top ranked guy. its tiring.
LV,

We have struggled to land top OL, WR, and DB. We get em on campus, everything's great, then it isnt.

I dont buy that NIL is that markedly different. Perhaps it is one reason, perhaps its more.

To staff's credit, I dont think this was a banner year for transfers. That said, how hard did we try?

Fans want to get every player, coaches always like the roster they have. There has to be an in between some place.

There should be no reason considering our success under DW and CJH that we arent recruiting at a higher level. And I mean top 6-7 in country. You good for, top 5 in SEC 🥴
Think he’s talking specifically about auburn based on what he was responding to

how is saying that TAMU hasn't replaced us mean "we have a commanding lead"? you were the guys freaking out that he was talking to someone else. figured we were out of it and we never would get another quality WR.

its always a dog fight, we are never going to win them all or even a majority. but it doesn't mean we are doomed or we need to fire coaches or that we can't get quality guys.

depending on which service you depend on we got the #1 OT last year, and beat out the guys who won the national title this year. the year before we got a Top 100 OT and again beat out the team who won the national title that year. and depending on how serious you take the rankings and all that, but the guy everyone is freaking out about us losing last season, Utu, took a major drop in the final rankings.

I have been over the WRs, we bring in highly rated guys. you negas just change the metric from highly rated to "producing" whenever it fits.

we land highly rated guys the big guys want. you COULD argue we don't get enough, but its false that we don't get top guys.

DB is the one place we haven't brought in a top ranked guy.

Actually, there doesn't. Coaches build the roster they want between recruiting and transfers. Fans have no input whatsoever. You decide whether or not to support the team. That's it.

We’ve done well the last two cycles at WR. But we’ve been at the top or bracketed at the top for the most elite guys like Keys the last two cycles only to fall out of contention apparently over NIL levels that did not deter the likes of TX and OHSt. With our good 2024 and 2025 group, adding Keys and we are set for a couple of years.

Its probably not a zero sum game out there with NIL. There is very little reason to believe that each kid is charging every school the same price for their services. we know of several who aren't.

Apparently both Tate and Smith were offered more than the 1.5 and 4.5 that OSU is giving them, but stayed at OSU. We know Brame was willing to take half the money to come to UT vs going to Oregon. We know that our NIL was set up in some way that OSU couldn't match in regards to Sanders.

Scheme, success, relationship, etc all of that stuff still comes into play with recruiting even with the money. If a kid doesn't like the scheme, the coaches, and its a bad team it makes sense to charge them more. Meanwhile OSU has a nice shiny national title to sell, and they are probably willing to take less money.

And no school has an unlimited budget. if that was the case we never would have gotten Sanders here this year. OSU has the most expensive roster, but couldn't afford him or give him what he wanted, but we could.
