1987 to be exact.
I thought it was longer than that. I didn't realize it lasted another 8 years after our epic battle with Purdue.

I suppose in your mind

the rose bowl now is the (insert coporate sponsor here) bowl
the sugar bowl now is the (insert corporate sponsor here) bowl
the fiesta bowl now is the (insert corpporate sponsor here) bowl
etc

No....

Those Bowls are still the "Rose, Sugar and Fiesta, which are sponsored by the different companies.

Just like the CAPITOL ONE BOWL is that bowl's name and the CHIK FIL LAY BOWL is that bowl's name.

When it was the Chik Fil Lay Peach Bowl, I just called it the Peach Bowl. Now it's just called the Chik Fil Lay Bowl.

It's not a big deal. Like I said, I was just offering information for those that did not realize those bowls had changed names.

Semantics. You're not putting any money in the pockets of corporations, or associations, or whatever by simply mentioning their name. And I'm sure we all know they exist, as most groups putting their name on bowl games already have other large marketing schemes. It's your choice if you want to patronize any of these businesses.

Oi vey.

Actually I blame Outback more than anything for our program's decline. They passed over us and forced us to play in the Peach Bowl a few seasons ago and we lost to a mid-range ACC team. I haven't eaten at an Outback since, and until they invite us back, or are no longer in the Bowl buisness, I won't. :nener:

December 31, 1981 Michigan 33 UCLA 14
December 31, 1982 Arkansas 28 Florida 24
December 31, 1983 Oklahoma St 24 Baylor 14
December 31, 1984 West Virginia 31 TCU 14
December 31, 1985 Air Force 24 Texas 16

Also, as I continue on about useless information about the Bluebonnet Bowl.....

The Astrodome hosted the game from 1968 through 1984, as well as the last game in 1987. When it was held in the Astrodome, it was called the "Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl".

i'm truly sorry for replying to this change in topic in this thread...sorry to those that are reading this and scratching your heads.

The loss to Cal was in '77, not '70. It was the first game of the Johnny Majors era.

Yeah, typo. I was looking ahead to that Air Force game. I'll fix that, thanks.
