You are just going to point out the Syracuse game?

Every defense will have problems............

98 Defense on the 97 team, what happens? :banghead:  :shades: :scare:

How many points did that defense give up to Syracuse? The offense saved them that day. The offense carried their weight. If I'm going to rip The Current Head Football Coach at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville when things are in poor condition, consistency and fairness mandate I credit him for the good times.
At least you're consistent I guess... I'm of the belief that all success and failure in a college football program rests squarely on the shoulders of the head coach.

it just occured to me...you never say CPF's name....always the current head coach....i guess kind a like how Gerry Dinardo would never call UT by it's name, just that shool to the East....nice. :p

Agree 100%

How could it be any other way?

I've seen some put it on outside factors or other people within the program.

But, it all begins and ends with the HC.

Most of the '98 defense was on the '97 team. It's not like there was this great influx of talent after the '97 season ended.

Whether you like CPF or not, I think once a coach wins 10 games with 4 different QBs, people pretty much stop making analogies like that.

2 BCS games in 14 seasons and 2 sec championships.

Winning 10 games is not the objective, its winning the sec. The last time UT won 10 games, UT didn't finish the season in the top 10. Winning 10 games is better then winning 9, thats about it.

Agreed. It was the UT offense that move the ball for almost 400 yards of offense against a very stingy FSU defense in the National Title game. That was without Jamal Lewis too.

Imagine the beating they would have given the Seminoles with a real runner in the backfield.

I just read in one of the preseason mags that the Vols have the best winning pct of all the SEC schools over the last 10 years. Tied for most SEC Championships with 2. LSU and Georgia were the only other schools to have at least 2 in the past 10 years.

Where does UT fall if a 5 year analysis is done?

yeah, there's a definite line of demarcation...between 1999 and before and 2000 and after....two different programs.

and there's nothing wrong with that, and we should be proud of it, but you also can't ignore that after 1999, there has been a dip in produciton to say the least...i know we had a couple of 10 win seasons, but only 2 bowl wins, no BCS appearances, and 2 SEC CG appearances, but again, no wins.

Don't get me wrong, it's great to say that we're the "winningest team in the SEC", and going strictly on w's and l's, we are, but again, it depends on how you define "winningest". I doubt that UGA or LSU would trade in any of their SEC titles the past 5 years to have a couple more wins so they could say they won more games in a 10 year span, just as i know i would give up a few wins over 10 years for a couple of more SEC titles....

it's all in how you want to interpret the information, and you have to consider the source of the information....nothing wrong with stating it, cause it's true, but it all depends on your point of view....

Better use those stats while you can. In 2 more years its going to be zero championships and a winning % behind Richt, unless UT wins another championship in the next 2 years.

I agree with the record thing. You can have all the ten win seasons you want, but to me, they mean nothing without a championship to show for it.

What does that have to do with the price of fireworks in Chattanooga?

I would be careful using that analogy. Its only a matter of time before someone makes a similar analogy with Manning and Fulmer.

..and then I pointed out that the analogy is absolutely ridiculous given that we've had success with a lot of other QBs and in fact we won the National title WITHOUT Manning.

You can criticize Fulmer for a lot of reasons, but you should at least pick one that's slightly valid.

11 and 1 for the vols ??????? righttttttttttttt

Phil Steele, who is THE best predicter out there, and has been the best preseason mag the last 7 years, as well as most accurate, has Tennessee winning the SEC East, so he either has then 11-1 or 10-2.
