Walking to pock a switch was like walking the green mile...as a child..lol. the absolute dread and fear of what was to come. During summertime the whelps across the backs of my knees from the switch would sting for 2 or 3 days when i got sweaty from playimg outside til dark. Instant reminder not to repeat whatever had warranted that switching in the first place. My mammaw called it a "hickry" if we got in trouble she would send us to pick a "hickry" and then light us up on the backs of pur legs. My dad beating me with a belt had absolutely nothing on that. Not even close. Mammaw passed in 1985 when i was 8 years old. Old farmhouse still off chapman highway towards sevierville, down near the "Y" for those familiar. My parents still live round there.
