Arky State is not a "mini-SEC" team. Not even close.
My 2 cents. The read option hand off doesn't work because Worsley isn't a real threat to take it around end. So the end crashes inside and the middle is jam packed with no running lanes. Compare this to Auburn who has a genuine running threat. So, if ends crash the outside run is wide open.
UT would be better to run action draw since they have consistently had success throwing.
Also, the linemen need to be allowed to fire forward. They aren't. They are essentially trying to pass block for the run game. Thats the biggest difference I see Malzhan's system. Yes it's read option but the linemen fire off like a power running team. Pass blocking is a defensive posture. Create a wall and stay in your zone. Run blocking is about attacking an opponent and driving him out of an area to create a hole. There haven't been any holes.
It was clear to me that after that really good drive in the 3rd we changed to getting some practice in on different plays and players. Its far more important to a team this young to get vital live game experience then it is to score a couple more meaningless touchdowns in a game we have already won.
I don't understand why some of you cant see that our coaching staff is looking at the whole year ahead of us and not just that one game alone.
Arkansas State has been a springboard for SEC head coaches, they have players in their starting line-up that would start for the lower half of the SEC, they have speed equal to half of the SEC and are in Arkansas so how is it..."not even close"? They would be a top team in SEC-AAA. You musta swilled too many Icehouses with your buds during this one....
