My University is nearly gone

Rick got rid of it? Such a good guy

Yes. Probably about 10 years ago.

I'm about 15 miles away. Really craving a whole wheat deep dish Stefano's right now.

Selling pizza by the slice nearly 40 years ago was a really original idea for Knoxville.

Damn, I forgot about that. You mean the one with the f'ed up "visiting policy" or whatever they called it?

I want to say 4 or 5.

Yes. Most restrictive visitation policy on campus.

These days, I wonder how they'd deal with the Kaitlin Jenners as far as housing goes.

I was on the 10th floor of N. Carrick.

Man I loved that place.
Same here. 10th floor. Little anecdote - two floors up from me those two years was, yep you guessed it, John Chavis.

FYI, this 12th floor was the restricted liberties floor. I don't remember the restrictions. Maybe they didn't open the door between north and south on the weekends like they did the other floors.

Who knows. I imagine restrictions are a thing of the past.

Not that we ever bothered with them 15 years ago anyway lol.

If Stefano's pizza is still there, I'm good. Windy City on whole wheat ftw.
yep :dance2:
Yes. Not the original ownership, but it's the same otherwise. Now owned by the same owners of Aubrey's, the Sun Spot, and Barley's.

Kingston Pike and Cedar Bluff stores are gone.
Cedar Bluff? Where was that?

Say what? Are you saying he lived there?

So I attended UT 1975-1979. I lived in Carrick Hall for two years and then in Andy Holt apartments two years. Both were relatively new buildings and the Presidential Complex was the place to be. I spent a lot of time at the Student Center my freshman year (you know - before I got new friends) going to movies, bowling, shooting pool. I attended every basketball game at Stokely Athletic Center and knew a few jocks that lived in Gibbs Hall. I actually did some school work while there and spent many a late night at the library. Loved to go to Strong Hall for the burgers.

Well, Stokely is gone. Andy Holt is gone. Student Center is gone. Strong Hall is gone. Rest of Presidential Complex is about to be gone. Gibbs Hall is gone. Library is buried somewhere inside a newer, bigger library. I guess every 40-50 years these makeovers happen. But not a whole lot left for me to go back and show my grandkids.

"Time stops for no one" - so true.

So, I graduated in 2002. I went back to a football game this year with my 3 roommates. We drove around looking at the new buildings. We couldn't believe it had changed that much in 13 years. However, we talked about how these things go in cycles and how we were literally at the end of a cycle. I gauatantee you there are more changes from 2002 until now than there was from 1975 when you started until 2002. Just crazy how it has all changed so quickly. There are areas of campus now that I would get lost and not recognize the view because of where buildings are going up.

Stefano's Cedar Bluff was in a tiny space in the shopping center just north of the Holiday Inn. The center had Food City until a few years ago and still has Dollar General last time that I drove by. Stefano's was at the far eastern end in the section that is set back a little from the parking lot.

There was a 4th Stefano's at a small college town not far from Knoxville. I think it was off I-75 towards Chattanooga.

I really miss Sam and Andy's and the Roman Room.

If there is a Hall of Fame for Bartenders, George should have been the first inductee.

Vol burga!

I will always be indebted to my dad for taking me in there as a kid. I'm glad I got to experience that. (And be amazed by the condom machine on the wall).

Here's one from waaayyyyy back. The Quarterback. I think in the spot that was the Longbranch before it moved across the street in order to put up Regions Bank.

And another pizza place just east of Stefano's. I think that it was called Antonio's.

The Cat's Meow hasn't been mentioned... but it's been gone for a long, long time. I never went there... don't really know what it was like. I think that it was in a converted house.

I have one of their matchbooks somewhere around here.

I can barely remember it, but there was a gas station in the middle of Cumberland Avenue below Ayres Hall. Seems like it might have been called "Spur".

There used to be this great late night, maybe all night restaurant that would deliver food to campus and they had great fries, and like fried mushrooms, and I think they would even deliver cookies or brownies(not the good ones) too. For the life of me I can't remember the name of it. It closed some 10 years ago. If I'm remembering correctly it was a tiny place on the inside I don't even think it had seats it was carryout or delivery.

Can't believe I didn't know about that. I was around when that Food City was there. Maybe before my time.

Antonio's had a buffet on Sunday night. Good stuff.

The old Longbranch was a great place. So much character.
