This is my problem. I have no problem with a business dictating the behavior of employees while on the clock. What an individual does off the clock is another matter. Especially when there is nothing illegal about it.But I wonder where in the company’s handbook it says you can’t have a different opinion with no repercussions while not at work.
I found his post that caused the firing. He deleted it after posting, but Reddit does what Reddit does best, saves a screenshot. For me, it has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing with his opinion. It's the idea that expressing an opinion your employer disagrees with while off the clock can cost you your job.

I imagine someone notified his employer. Maybe publicly. Probably had his job/employer listed on his Facebook page.I found his post that caused the firing. He deleted it after posting, but Reddit does what Reddit does best, saves a screenshot.
"Now is the time for short tracks round the country to pull their NASCAR sanctions for their recent actions towards America. I would not want to be affiliated with a group that doesn't respect what the American flag stands for. A lot of people have died to make this country what it is. Disrespecting the flag of this country is a disgrace. Then removing the Confederate flags. Do those dips—s even understand what that flag stands for. I have lost all respect for NASCAR. I will no longer be supporting their sanction body."
I don't want to get in a debate about it either. I agree with you. It was on his personal social media off the clock. Shouldn't have affected his job.
Not good at all, however; it seems recent similar events turned out to be hoaxes.NASCAR says noose found in Wallace's garage
We shall see where this goes. With no fans that means the only people in the area were team members, drives, owners, nascar/track officials, and limited media. Im guessing Nascar also has cameras and security around the garage constantly making sure nothing screwy is going on with the cars. We should hear something pretty quickly if true

It wasn't his employer. He worked for Indy, not NASCAR.Good luck criticizing your employer in front of the whole world - especially over a policy about a racially sensitive matter - on social media. Depending upon what you say, you can and should get fired for posting something like this dip$hit did. I believe he could have couched his argument in a less inflammatory way and kept his job.
Tons of companies have social media policies whether you’re on the clock or not. It falls under the “representing the company” umbrella. For me, it has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing with his opinion. And I'm saying I disagree with it. People may be complete ass holes when they're off the clock, but it's how they act on the job that should matter to an employer. If a company saw someone marching with BLM and decided they didn't like it and fired that person, wouldn't you believe it wrong? I would. I think a company's employee expectation should end once they're off the clock.Tons of companies have social media policies whether you’re on the clock or not.
