Why are we so sensitive nowadays?

If the heat is too much stay home.

Players will be fine - they train in this and are hydrated.

Stop the nonsense!

Oh, so common sense is taboo in here? Yeah I'm sensitive. Common Sensitive. Football should not be played on a field registering 110- 120 degrees. Defend that is you want, ignorance IS bliss. Players train INDOORS when it's blistering Buddy .

It may be that this tropical storm Idalia, or soon to be hurricane (as it picks up energy across the hot gulf waters) changes the weather to the better in Nashville Saturday morning. I know Nashville is a little too far west to be impacted much, but it could bring some air movement and moisture if the storms tracks across the panhandle?

I have to wonder if the OP ever played. August was always a bear in HS. I played before there were rules on the length of practice. Before school started, we had two a days. Not sure why they called it that since practice never seemed to actually end. After classes started, School ended at 3:00. We were on the field by 3:30 and practiced until dark.... then we ran sprints. It was seldom under 90 when we practiced.

For this game, they will have high tech hydration, cooling fans, shade, etc. They may even have an AC tent. Worst case they'll play about 30 or may 40 plays then go into an air conditioned locker room.

If you're talking about the fans who really do nothing but sit there... good grief.

It won't be 90 at 11am. More like 3pm and the game will be over by then. The temps and weather will be far better than what we have had in Nashville the last couple weeks. I'm looking forward to going and drinking lots of cold beer.

The first couple of games are usually 90 degrees. I will say, that last 4 days has saw a fluctuation in Nashville temp from 86-98, chance of rain, to cloudy, partly sunny, to sunny. It's changing every couple of hours.

My wife, among many others, would disagree with that.. she was at both. She left the stadium in Pasadena (as did hundreds of Tennessee fans) but not in 91. I mean, I would try to say which was hotter. Both were hot... hard to deal with hot.

She might not, but actual temperature readings would agree with me. It hit 120 on the field in 1991. Band members passed out and had to receive IVs. Smokey had to be removed from the field due to heat issues.

None of those things happened in 1997 and the actual temp was not close.

I actually don’t remember people leaving in 97. In fact, I remember sunburn being a bigger issue than the heat. The heat didn’t really bother me or my group. I recall the 2002 opening game against Wyoming in Nashville being hotter. Of course, that was in August.

Right. It’s not like this isn’t an every year thing. 90 degree temps for the first game or two are normal.

I'm not really debating which games were hotter. they were all miserably hot that I listed and I recall people having problems and leaving the games I listed. But I would not try and tell you one is hotter than another. don't know if people passed out at the Rose Bowl or not. I do know by the hundreds, they didn't watch the second half seeking relief from the sun / heat.

We also tailgated (well, picnicked on a blanket outside the stadium) for hours before outside the Rose Bowl. That was a hot tailgate.

Not every game can be played at night and games have been played in the heat for literally decades

Everyone will survive
Smokey the VI says hello. I was at that game . "Smokey VI, who suffered heat exhaustion in the 120-degree temperatures at the 1991 UCLA game, was listed on the Vols injury report until he returned later in the season.

People in stands were dropping like flies.

Everyone needs to hydrate all day on Friday and pre game Sat. And "tailgate" after the game

I remember seeing band members faint at 91 game.

That IS my point. Ridiculous to even run the risk. The reported temp on the Field In Jacksonville Al was 130. For TV! Asinine. I wanta see all these defenders of day games in August get their butts out there; or even in the stands under those conditions. I'm in better shape than most on here, and I'm not that stupid. How many Deaths from strokes is too many? It is a distinct possibility.

Let me know if you have ever heard of a player having a heat stroke during a game.

Is it really though? I have heard of players having heat related issues during a practice but never in a game aside form cramps.

Google it. Football players from High School to College have died from the heat, in Practice and in games. And the Ncaa implements new rules for "Player Safety". That's the Hypocrisy of it all. FOOTBALL used to be a Fall sport; back when we actually had a cool end of September. Games were never played in August, and the first September games were played at night. I know, I listened to John Ward starting at 6pm . It is now about TV money and greed, and I guarantee you the players would be happy to return to those days. So either move these games indoors, or play them at night. I get it. Some on here just agree to disagree with no real footing. It's a symptom.

Don't need to google it...if you are smart with hydration and cooling there is no risk of heat stroke and there's no excuse for college and HS staffs not to be. You don't make sweeping changes like that due to outliers. That's how we got all the Covid stupidity

Nissan stadium moving to turf instead of natural grass this year is only going to make the heat worse.
