Nashville closes bars and restricts businesses as coronavirus worsens

They hid data and singled out restaurants/bars without giving context and construction related numbers. From July 2 article about press conference after receiving the June 30 data:

"Dr. Alex Jahangir, head of the city’s coronavirus task force, said public health workers first detected a trend of bar-related infections last weekend and have since traced at least 30 new infections of Nashville residents across 10 different bars." This was purposefully intended to sound bad without context.

"Mayor John Cooper singled out bars as an infection risk in the city, saying they were the source of a "record number of clusters" of new cases this week." No John, no they were not and your own data showed that.

Fox News 17 is not a conservative outlet. Most of our local television news in Nashville is center left. This whole thing seems to come down to how someone wants to interpret the email from the heath department employee, which means 99% of people will superimpose their own leanings on the facts and draw whatever conclusion most reinforces their preconceived notions.

What would you use?

Deaths by dates. Its final and its impact is clear, while spread just says X people were infected and 95% didnt even know it. I wouldnt say it's fair to compare april/May NY to july/august GA.

The other if you are using spread or deaths, and I am not sure the best way to describe it, would be worst to worst. Or at least dates of the similiar duration of spread within the state above some start line. Basing it on when each state individually started peaking. To say 2 weeks into GAs spike was X, vs 2 weeks into NY which was Y.

Comparing different parts of the bell curve to each other doesnt tell us a lot.

If you want to best picture you have to wait till it's all over. We could be rearranging deck chairs on the titanic or we could be leaving the gate open until the cows come home.
