Why would he? Why don’t you take the kids letter of why he doesn’t play anymore? Besides, HIPPA laws prevent you from talking about that.
Sure, they mention player health problems so often. How much about Trey’s health has ever been said? Virtually nothing.I’d be curious to hear what his injury was. Funny that we have a training staff on hand to deal with players health, and no one mentioned he had any health problems until he just didn’t show up to practice.
That is a nice statement and good luck to him. It does leave me wondering what he is pursuing? Here is his statement addressing the decision to leave. Maybe this puts an end to speculation...
“All good things must come to an end. The University of Tennessee and the game of football have been nothing short of blessings and much cherished gifts that will always have a place in my heart. However, due to sustained injuries and the overlapping wear on my body, I have decided to retire from the game that has taken me places that I never could have imagined. It was my decision to start the process of finishing my college education and finally chase the career of my dreams. Coach (Phillip) Fulmer, (Jeremy) Pruitt, (Jim) Chaney and (Will) Friend have only been supportive and encouraging of their players, and I thank them for the lessons learned within such a short period of time. As well as Coach (Craig) Fitzgerald and his assistants, head trainer Jeronimo (Boche) and team physicians, you will not find a more dedicated group of people that are the absolute best at their craft. Not only lessons on the field and in the weight room, but lessons of competitive drive to handle the speed of life no matter the cost. Most of all, Vol Nation, thank you for your endless love and support even through the absolute worst of times, and I hope this decision shows the true value of the greatest fans on earth!”

Exactly, why vilify him? He obviously feels like he can’t continue to play the game due to wear and tear. Let hem be and thanks for trying. Kid never got in trouble and tried to help best that he could. Just let him go and move on.Some of you guys need to do a little self-inventory before taking another shot at the kid. He is having to give up football -- which he's dedicated a huge chunk of his life to --for health reasons, and there are a bunch of grown men giving him a hard time.
Read his statement, then log off if you feel like disparaging him.
Because maybe the player did and Coach has better things to do than rehash exactly what the kid said? He doesn’t have to appease every fans wish, just win gamesWhy wouldn’t he? The fact that Pruitt hasn’t come out and say that Nathan Niehaus is medically retiring from football is weird. And I read his letter and I respect it and his desxion. But when the coach doesn’t give the same reason the players is
Giving for leaving the team then it makes me wonder wtf is going on. I’m not saying Nathan isn’t hurt, just odd that Pruitt hasn’t phrased it as career ending injury, or medical retirement

The disrespectful part is assuming it has to be some dark sinister reason that no one is talking about. It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to realize a player doesn't go from cleared for practice to medically retired by the training staff in one day. Obviously it was his call and not supported or endorsed by the training staff. That is obvious from that observation and from Pruitt's comments.
But if observing the obvious is considered disrespectful to the kid, I'm happy to let the topic die. It doesn't matter. He contributed more to the sport of football than 99.9% of players ever will, got 4 years of school paid for, and can now turn the chapter into the rest of his life. Meanwhile, we move on to the 2019 season.
Where's your kid playin?

I don’t find it odd at all. It’s not a specific injury but the kid is just worn out and in pain. He said that. Maybe he has spondylitis or maybe it’s just disc disease from the pounding his back has taken year after year but he feels he can’t go. Sure you can try and play through that with PT and such but maybe this kid wants to not have back surgery at age 25 and again and again and be a cripple by 35. It’s the attack on him after his statement that looks badThat very well may be true, but you have to admit it’s odd that Pruitt isn’t saying medical reasons is why he left. And damn straight winning games is all that matters for CJP. But here on vol nation we have discussions, so I don’t know why some people seem to get their feelings hurt with this discussion. I’ve said nothing sinister about Niehaus and I wish him and his family the best in all their future endeavors.
