Nathan Niehaus has left the team

Another casualty of the Butch Jones "Think System" of football coaching. No training/lifting regimen for player development and success, and no coaching accountability for either. The role of lives Analyst Jones has adversely affected only continues to grow.....how many is it now? Kirkland Jr, Niehaus, Hall, Antonutti and you can add the rest, it's seven or eight by now. So much potential so carelessly wasted.....there oughta be a law!

Do any of you actually read the posts or are you too busy thinking about some snarky remark to make about a young man who has given his all but his body won't let him continue? It's immature and low class even if you're "kidding." I wish the young man all the happiness moving forward.

Guess having extensive back issues and medically retiring isn’t good enough?
You can believe what you want.

Pruitt was crystal clear yesterday. Pruitt has also shown to be completely understanding with players regarding injuries. I think if Nathan had a legitimate medical injury causing his retirement, Pruitt wouldn't have any reason not to acknowledge that as opposed to calling him a quitter.

Called him a quitter? Where? When? So now you are calling Nathan a liar. There are no words.

Serious question, do all teams suffer this much turnover due to medical retirement? I'm 38 and have really followed the VOLS from about 88' ish on. I don't ever remember having this many players retiring for medical purposes. And to clarify, I mean actually leave football, not just the proverbial ACL tear/ medical redshirt for a year.

I guess since you were there for his meetings with the medical team, you would know?

I thought he said quit, he didn't. But this is the quote.

"Nathan Niehaus has left the team."

"So it was his decision?"

"Oh yeah. Absolutely".

So you can read that however you want to. And I'll read it as Pruitt intended it.

And look, it's pretty dumb to sit here and call the kid a liar. Just like it's pretty dumb to read his statement and assume it's all 100% fact. He clearly didn't give the training staff an opportunity to help him recover at the very least.

I'm sure his back is obviously bothering him, and that's obviously a half truth, considering he was cleared by the medical staff right up until the time he quit the team.

😱😱😱

I'm just calling what I'm seeing. You can't watch the press conference yesterday and still believe it was a medical retirement with a consensus from the training staff

So does anybody have any idea why this Niehous kid left the team? Has he put out a statement or anything?

Probably a result of a horrible, insufficient strength program by the prior HC and recruiting players out of high school not physically developed well enough at that stage to compete in the SEC plus some bad luck. You’ll always have a few players who get hurt to the point they can’t play any longer but Tennessee has played guys too early in the career based on their physical level at that point due to recruiting blunders by DD and BJ. Not near enough linemen were signed by both.

Man just give it up. Let it go. Why beat on the kid anonymously on a message board? He said he is injured so just take that as truth and move on. Nothing can be gained by saying he’s a quitter.

Good grief, it's a back problem. Barring a break or obvious specific injury, a training/medical staff would clear him and say he can play as long as he feels physically able. Back pain can be debilitating and it sounds like he hit his limit. Hopefully he can get some help.

Thank God for a voice of reason!
