Those are always pretty ridiculous and not taken seriously
Never happen now. Most people have their hand in the cookie jar one way or another. Mention any rational plan to reel in spending and those politicians will be eviscerated by the media, the opposing party and will be shown the door by “don’t take away my govt cheese” voters.Sure, but that's not a commendable excuse.
The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. A serious country with serious politicians, would have budget proposal that was at least deficit neutral. Democrats can propose a budget heavy one entitlements while Republicans can propose a budget heavy on defense. Negotiate the difference in priorities but both sides live within the budget constraints.

Probably not, but if Biden gets a second term, at least you, I and everyone else will be paying $5T more in taxes. I would be more acceptable toward targeted tax increases if spending were addressed, but that’s just fantasy land.If Trump wins get back to me on the debt in 2027. Doubt you'll be happy then, either.
So, I just looked it up. That’s what I’m afraid of. I’ve said it before, if we go this route, all assets either get repriced, seized or both. Wipes out wealth on a massive scale along with redistribution of what remains. The masses will bow down to the gods of govt thinking they are being saved, except they aren’t. .Read The Madibles by Lionel Shriver.
